Hello everyone. First of all thank you ladies for all your love and support these past 9 months. I really appreciate it.
Last Sunday night I went on a crazy cleaning fit. When I finished I wasn't hungry but made myself eat some rice and then H and I went to bed. I had trouble falling and staying asleep.
At 1:40 am I woke up and felt something warm and knew my water was breaking. I ran to the bathroom and mostly made it. I woke H up and called the doctor who had me come to the hospital. I was feeling pretty good at this point. Mild nausea and some really mild cramps/contractions.
Got to the hospital around 2:30. My doctor confirmed my water had broken and checked me. I was 2 cm. I was admitted and started on pitocin since my contractions were spaced out and not very strong. I was pretty bummed that I needed pitocin. Pitocin was started at 4:00 and by 5:00 I was having regular contractions every 3-4 minutes. They were down to every 2-3 minutes by 6:00.
My doctor came and checked me at 7:30 and I was still 2 despite my frequent strong contractions. She said we may need to do a c section if my cervix didn't start changing. She said she would be back around noon to check me again.
I continued laboring w contractions every 2-3 minutes until about 9:30 am when the pain became just too intense. I had not initially intended to have an epidural but was open to it if needed and knew w pitocin that I may need the epidural. I was already confined to bed and getting to the bathroom was a real pain so I decided to get an epidural which was placed by 10:00 and was magic.
At around noon the nurse came in and said the baby's heart rate was dropping w contractions. I changed positions a few times and was finally put on oxygen which seemed to help. There was suspicion the cord was either being compressed/was around the baby's neck I was worried.
My doctor came in around 1 and checked me. I was 6-7. We were all very happy! She said she would be back around 3 to check me again. I remained on oxygen and continued laboring. I was ready to push by the time the doctor returned at 3. We started pushing at 3:15.
Around 3:40 (maybe?) things got a little scary because the baby wasn't tolerating the contractions or pushing. His heart rate was dropping w each push and I wasn't making much progress moving him out. Things weren't looking good. They dropped back my pitocin, put me on my right side (I had been on my left), and had me rest for 5 minutes before trying again. I put everything I had into each push because I just wanted to get the baby out so badly without having a c section. The new position helped and he was born at 4:09. He had his cord around his shoulder so each contraction and push compressed it. He didn't cry right away so he was taken away but everything checked out.
Liam was 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 3/4 inches. He was born at 38 weeks 3 days.
The first week has been good. Breast feeding has gone better than I expected and recovery has been going well. I had a 1st degree tear. I love this boy more and more every day.
Sorry for the novel. Pip if you made it this far!*poof*
