versatility is your friend. i loved packing dresses that were versatile and could be paired with nice dress shoes for work or flip flops to go to dinner or whatever. scarves can change an outfit as well, but i'm kind of a scarf freak. they are also great for the plane when I was freezing and in offices for the same reason.
Does your office have published travel guidelines? I know that with my office, if I'm gone more than 7 nights they will pay for laundry service/dry cleaning so I don't have to pack a ridiculous amount.

Yes, if it's more than 4 nights, they'll pay for laundry.
So, can I send underwear for dry cleaning? Tanks? Anything and everything?

yes - i have send underwear through the hotel laundry once out of desperation. tanks and shirts and stuff plenty of times. I figure hotels have seen it all.
Make sure you've got comfortable lounging clothes for just hanging out in, buy larger toiletries when you get there, and bring along a few homey things- travel candle, framed photo, small throw blanket, etc.
Make sure you bring things you can layer up. September in Minneapolis is wonderful. However it can go from 75 and sunny to 50 and cloudy fairly quickly.
Maybe a small sewing kit, stain stick, superglue, scissors. If I tore or stained a shirt, or broke a shoe, on a shorter trip, I would just set it aside until I got home, but you might want to be able to make small repairs if you're there for a month.
