I still take great pleasure in correcting my MIL when she thinks that because she has twins on her side, that somehow it's because of her that we have twins. I love making her squeamish describing the science behind it. There were two eggs and then there were two sperm....
My MIL is 100% convinced our boys are due to her genes because she has a cousin with twins. A) that's not the way it works for fraternal twins, and B) my guys are identical, so it's not a genetic thing anyway. She just doesn't get it. *shrug*
"Your kids are twins?" "Yes." "Are they both twins?"
Um, yeah. That's kind of how it works.
I get told that they must be identical all the time. There is a 99% chance that they are not. I say they are or they aren't depending on my mood and if I want to keep talking to the random.
Stupid lady: Are they triplets? Me: yes Stupid lady: were they all born on the same day? Me:
When I was in the hospital before my girls were born there was actually someone with triplets that had them on three separate days. They were really early, the first one's water broke and they couldn't stop it. A couple days later just before midnight the second was born and just after midnight the third was born.

Highly unlikely and stupid question but possible.
A good friend had hers at 11:58/9 at night and 12:15 in the am. 15 minutes of a difference but the next day.

My friend told me she was having twins almost 5 years ago, and I told her better you than me... and wouldn't you know she had saved that text and threw it back at me when I found out we had two! I deserved it.

My in laws don't know we did IVF but she always makes the comment how I was destined to have twins because they run in both families. I finally sat her down and explained how twins are made and now she stopped making those comments, but I still don't think she gets it either.
It's annoying. how everyone says "do twins run in the family?"

Were yours di/di? My boys were, so we figured fraternal, but curiosity got the better of us and we did the genetic testing. We just got the results today and they are identical. Haha. I told my H we need to start playing the lottery with those odds on our side! But before today, I would make up identical or fraternal depending on my mood too!

"But they can't be twins; look at their hair!" (At the time, one had platinum blond hair and one had dark brown hair.)
Plus all the usual stuff.
Once this summer, I was at Starbucks with my bro/SIL and their 9-month-old, both my sisters, and my younger sister's 3-month-old. The two babies look super different and obviously one is 9m and one is 3m. They were next to each other in their car seats and this nosy lady came over and was ogling them and asked how old the 9m old was and then when she asked about the 3m old, I said, "Oh, they're twins." It came out quite naturally after 5.5 years as a MoM but I confess I really just wanted to mess with her. The look on her face was worth it.
