My b/g twins are 8.5 months old and their cribs are currently in an L shape, touching each other. I feel like at some point they will start climbing from one crib into the other. Is this a given? I'm wondering if we should go ahead and move their cribs to opposite sides of the room. Which will entail a redoing and reconfiguration of the whole room, which I don't look forward to! (Plus moving some cute stuff on a wall to another wall, and moving Ikea Lack shelves to another wall too. Argh)
Any experiences with this? Anyone's twins not have an issue with this? Or does it always happen but maybe it's not an issue like I'm imagining?
I had to separate mine and the only way was this terrible configuration that left almost no room to walk. It sucked but they slept so I dealt with it until we switched to real beds.

We had to separate at about 10 months, well before our boys were even climbing out -- they'd reach into the other crib and poke each other/pull each other's hair/generally keep each other awake. :/
We have the same arrangement in their room. In an L in the corner. They have not yet attempted any climbing. They were 2 in April.
BUT...we have had nap time troubles for a while now. Mostly throwing things back and forth, playing with the window blinds, and the worst has been peeling the wall decal I custom made with an Etsy seller. Part of it's ruined now, so it makes me sad.
Anyway, We had to start moving their cribs to the center of the room a few months ago. It's a pain, but it's worth a good nap.
Thanks for the responses so far, breezy- it's good to hear that yours don't do any climbing even at 2. I'm not even really sure at what age I could possibly expect the climbing?
And that sucks about the decal, I would be sad too! I love the little artwork clusters that I put above each of their cribs, I hung them pretty high so I think they should be ok. But... I'll have to move one if I move the crib and that will be such a pain....

I think it probably just depends on the kid, my DD never climbed out of her crib. We did put her into a toddler bed shortly after she turned 2. Our friends ID boys climb out of their cribs, walk across the room and climb into their brothers crib to sleep sometimes. So the gap between their cribs never really prevented that. I think they were in their cribs until they were 3.

Oh yeah- I'm glad you mentioned this because I had thought about what if there was not even a point in separating their cribs because what if one could just walk across the room anyway and climb into the others crib. I am pretty ignorant about crib climbing, can babies just as easily climb into a crib as they can out of one? Dumb question I'm sure! And like you said, I'm sure it depends on the kid.

I've heard they can as early as a year, but thankfully mine haven't tried.
My two are still in Halo sleepsacks - I think it prevents them from being able! Although they aren't during naps, and that is when they are most naughty, so I figure they just haven't thought to try. I'm pretty sure they are physically able.
I am hoping to keep them in their cribs until they go to college.

Ok cool. And actually mine wear the Halo sleep sacks too, and during their naps as well! My son is the only one standing so far and he's able to stand in the sack, but now that I think about it- duh- I guess those things would make it hard for them to climb! Good!

Mine were climbing in AND out of their cribs before 18 months. With one of our girls, we had to basically put her crib projecting out into the room, with no furniture within arm's reach, or she could get out even earlier than that. I think it just depends on the kiddos. Since moving is going to be a bit of a PITA for you, I would probably wait and deal with it when/if you have to. We've rearranged the nursery at least 10 times between cribs, toddler beds and twin beds till we finally found an arrangement that keeps the chaos to a minimum. And they still manage to climb on furniture!
