Bf's birthday is coming up and he's mentioned a few times that moving from Texas to NY is the best thing he's ever done. But he loves Texas so much. So I was thinking a Texas-NY themed gift would be nice for his birthday. I scoured etsy for a while, I originally wanted to get him custom chucks with one NYC skyline and one Dallas skyline, but that proved difficult. I did find these eventually, are they dumb? If not, which would you get?
I like the first one, but it makes me think of something that a long-distance couple would have rather than just one person who moved.
I feel like I've seen good ideas on Pinterest. It definitely works in your favor that you're looking for Texas stuff. I'm pretty convinced that there is a Texas themed EVERYTHING! I've even seen Texas toilet paper!
ETA: in my search for other ideas, I found there's a movie from 1948 called Texas, Brooklyn, & Heaven (romantic comedy).
Sorry, this doesn't strike me as a dude's gift (and I'm all about "there's no such thing as guy stuff and girl stuff....but in this case, maybe?) I love your chucks idea....can you research that further.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I don't think it's weird at all to ask about who did the shoes, if that something you think he'd like.
If you think he'd like something for his place, maybe you could find some artwork that represents something/place that he really misses in a Texas. He can see the Brooklyn Bridge all the time, but he can't see his favorite Texas sites. When we moved, someone gave us a hand painted tin bucket/basket thing that had our last name and a team logo on it. It wasn't big & most people never noticed it, but we both really loved having it as a reminder of our last place we had called home.
I keep thinking about the phrase "You can take a girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of a girl." I like it, and it fits me., but I'm not sure it translates well to guys.
