I'm old and couldn't hang past 12:30, but aside from the body customizations, so far it reminds me more of 2. I preferred the object customization options of 3.
If this game can't keep one of the biggest Sims fans entertained for more than an hour and a half, what hope do I have? I think I'll save my money for now.
I'm sad panda bc I won't be able to get it for a few more weeks. Have to pass my A+ first. But I'm happy to be reading about what you think of it though.
Someone said in the forums (I'm still pissed they closed down TS3's forums) that the look and feel reminds them of the console versions. I think I only played it on console a few times but I agree.
I'm liking it a bit more now that I'm getting more comfortable with the controls. But it almost feels like a really simplified version of TS.
I haaaated the console version. I felt like it was dumbed down and a fraction of the game.
I think my son should give this to his friend (who is a new sims lover), and we will stick to the sims we know and love!
I started with a console and after playing the computer games, I could never go back. I'm worried that is what this will be.

I was mad they closed TS3's forums too! Nic, do you have to create a new login for TS4's forums? I haven't tried to sign in and I don't even know if I remember my origin login
I don't understand this. Sims do stuff on their own?
Yes, they have full autonomy. You can make them do what you want though. But if you were to sit there and not tell them what to do, they would go off and do whatever they want.
Lol, many times people have left their game running and gone to get something to eat or whatever and come back to their (sim) house on fire and two sims dead.
I left my sims once. AND THEN THEY GOT PREGNANT BEFORE I WANTED THEM TO!
Also, I tend to make my sims sleep with everybody!
Well it was with her husband, but they weren't ready yet. And they were in the future, and then I couldn't leave the future until she had the baby. So the baby was born in the future!
And I do that too. Or I make blatant caricature sims and that is usually one of them. It comes in handy when I need to make a bunch of kids. And evil sims. Evil sims are so much fun.
So nicbreefulchilerellanos et al, if I were to go on hospital bed rest for a few weeks and wanted to buy a version of the sims to keep me occupied, should I spring for the new one, or not worth it? I haven't played since I was in college and had TS2.

Well, I love (love love) The Sims 3. And it's bound to be much cheaper now that TS4 is out. To be honest, since you're coming in after not having played it for years, TS4 might be better for you. It feels dumbed down to people that were really involved with TS3, but new people coming in might like it a lot, as they've simplified it a ton.
BUT, I wouldn't buy TS3 unless you also buy at least a few expansions at the same time. TS3's base game had almost nothing to it. As a base game, TS4 has much more than TS3 did.
What does it come with compared to TS3 base game? ::PLEASE SAY PETS, PLEASE SAY PETS:::
That's right, sorry chilerellanos, I knew that. I swear I read the thread, lol.
I've been watching some youtube videos of the two, trying to decide, and I'm still torn. Leaning towards 4, since I don't really want to buy many expansions. In all likelihood I won't have much time to play it once baby gets here and I'm back at home.
I play world of warcraft extensively and the concept behind sims expacs confuses the crap out of me, there is an expansion for weather? I'm glad you are having fun with it!

Well, how else would EA milk us for every penny if they gave away everything at the start??
This is... incredibly strange and sims must be the greatest game ever for people to have put up with this. I'm lol'ing at the idea of Blizzard trying to do that.

Pssh.. you must have been hitting the juice keg.
No, there isn't pets. Or toddlers. Or swimming pools. Or dishwashers. Or a shitton more things. Which is *really* annoying.
It does have dating, gardening, collecting, cleaner build mode, better CAS (hair, makeup and clothing have all been combined), more jobs and job branches, emotions (which I'm eh on.. The skill boost is cool and they unlock small things while the emotion is on), various instruments, multitasking (ie my sim can send a text while she's playing a game on her computer or read a book while she's on the toilet). Stuff like that. But assume that anything that was a big expansion pack has been left out (weather, pets, supernatural). They'll add it in later I'm sure. For $50 a pop.
What? These are basics. That blows. I can see pets being an expansion pack because it always is. The other stuff is unacceptable.
So gardening is different than in TS3? Interesting. And A STABLE GAME AND FAST SAVING. No way. I don't believe it. Impossible. That is like a dream.
nicbreeful, I hope you don't mind if I bug you with Sims questions. I had read somewhere that the jobs were less than TS3, so this isn't true? And are interactions between sims more realistic because of the emotions?
Oh, and I feel like they had included a ranking of a party in TS2 (or maybe it was my old PS2 version). It was really useful. I don't think it had goals, but it at least let you know how well a party was going. I always found that frustrating in TS3.
The game does look really pretty. I almost want it for the pretty, but I think I will still hold out until at least one expansion pack.

What do you mean less? Like, less jobs? That could be.. I didn't count them, but it felt like it was at least the same. And almost every job seems to have at least 2 branches to it.
The interactions are more realistic, I think. It's much harder to make friends (lol, no more talk, talk, talk, hug, kiss, hug, kiss, make out, woohoo, woohoo, woohoo, married). It took me 3-4 hangouts before a sim considered my sim their friend. And the emotions also make it more realistic.. If you're feeling a certain way (like embarrassed) then you need time before the embarrassment wears off and you have all interactions available again. Sims in a confident mood will be more successful in conversations and a flirty mood helps with romantic interactions.
I think they did include a ranking is TS2! Or, at least that sounds right..Lol, it's been so long since I've played.
Same, I should ask H since he grabbed the free TS2 from EA.
I like the sound of 2 branches to each job. I loved being able to choose different branches and things. I would love for them to make job hopping realistic. The emotions sound awesome. It was always a little disappointing when the moodlets didn't really affect the conversation.
will admit I am super spoiled. My current sim has enough Charisma and friends that she can do a charming introduction and then tell a joke and everyone loves her. So 3-4 interactions sounds SO LONG.
Tangent, but my first sims game was on PS2 and one of the goals was to get married and I had it down to a science to finish the goal before the party was over. So approximately 8 hours.

I feel like party ranking was in one of the PC versions. Because as soon as nicbreeful mentioned it I thought about how cool that they brought that back. But maybe I'm thinking of TS2 where you try to get your kids into private school.
I'm unsure if I'm going to purchase yet. Maybe there will be a in store discount around the holidays.
