Mmmm...now I want ramen. I think I know what my next round of work lunch will be. Ramen+assorted add ins! I'm thinking a bag of mixed frozen veggies and some boiled eggs. And hot sauce. om nom nom nom.

I grew up eating ramen and scrambled eggs and had no idea this wasn't normal until I got to college and my roommates looked at me funny. Never thought about adding veggies though.

there's an Asian grocery store near me that has, I shit you not, an entire supermarket aisle, both sides, floor to ceiling... ramen. Ramen of all kinds and varieties and prices. It's amazing:
the vast majority of the packaging is not in English. They're required to put an English-language ingredient label on it, so they do, but it's usually a sticker with JUST a list of ingredients and is often not helpful.
BUT I love buying random ramen and doing it up just to see what it is, so now I want to get over there and buy ALL.THE.RAMEN.

My husband may have brought back as many packages of assorted flavors as he could from our trip to Taiwan & Japan. He was in heaven.
I've never used the flavor packets that come with the noodles. I grew up eating them combined with Campbell's chicken noodle soup because that's what my mom would serve us for lunch. When I got older I'd just boil them, drain them, and add salt and pepper, and that's it.
It's not something we ate growing up. My college years I ate pretty well & I've just never had them. I guess I need to fix that.
I'm having a hard time comprehending this. Possibly because I eat ramen almost every Friday. Fancy ramen, true, but still. And it has a soft boiled egg with a piece of pork belly and what day is it again?

Ha tomorrow is Friday. Ship me some ramen. I do love pork belly.
And the ramen is cupcake adjacent! You should come visit.

I was eating Ramen when I read this last night... late night ramen with peas, shredded carrots, Hoisin sauce, and 2/3rds the water so it's super salty.
I don't think I'd try the spaghetti ramen, but I don't like marinara pasta really.
We also eat Pho a lot - we make it at home now that we don't live near a major city, but it's like fancy ramen with sliced raw meat added to the boiling broth, jalapenos, thai basil, hosin sauce, and Siracha.

Where would I be required to travel to? I'm craving a cupcake today.
i grew up in the rural south. We didn't have ramen but we did have other interesting items. I found out about ramen in college & it didn't find it appealing. But I was also a very picky eater at the time.
I'm near SF. I'm sure there are great cupcakes/ramen near you, so probably no need to travel. But I am pretty cool.

Mmmm, pho.
I love Pho, because it's tasty and cheap and fast and warm in cool weather. ...not to mention all the fun you can have with Pho-restaurant names:
mominatrix I FUCKING LOVE Vietnamese places. Anyone who charges more than $3.00 for a Bahn Mi though should be brought up on charges.
There is a bombdiggity bahn mi place down the street from my house. There's also a hotdog vendor that has a delightful bahn mi dog at our Farmers Market.

When I am in your area, you are taking me correct?

my favorite Pho place doesn't do Bahn Mi, though. No Bubble Tea, either. Just Pho (in a mind-boggling number of varieties), Vietnamese coffee and tea. And little cream puffs.... that they give you FREE the instant you sit down.
Just think about that. Free dessert. First. And they're good.
As the adults, we always make the kids wait until we're done with our pho, but grownups on their own are under no such restriction.
You can buy them in bulk, but you have to order them in advance. I keep thinking I should bring a bunch of them next time I'm expected to appear at a potluck.
