We went in on a gift with SIL & BIL once. We learned 6 months later that what we "went in on" was something that SIL got for her own wedding and re-gifted.
We didn't correct the issue when we found out about it.
I also brought a friend with me to a wedding because it was out of town, I had to go, and would know no one else at the wedding. My invite was not an "and guest."
- We put the registry info on the invitations. - We had a cash bar. - I told off my aunt when she tried to take control of the music schedule in the reception.

Oh, another one.... we went to a wedding where the reception was at a hotel. The wedding had a really expensive cash bar with really shitty beer and wine and not much else. We stopped at a liquor store on our way into town and kept a stash in our hotel room and went back to the room any time we needed a top-off.
We were nice and let our friends and family hit up our stash, though.
A good friend of mine got married several years ago and she didn't give me a +1, so I called her and asked her to reconsider so I could bring my bf (future DH). In my defense, we had been dating for over a year at this point and it was an out of town wedding (bmore to upstate NY). In her defense, he was still only separated, not yet divorced. I was sensitive to our relationship not being taken seriously enough b/c of the situation.
I've been a bad gift giver. Also, I don't care a thing about greeting cards personally - I'd rather get a hand-scrawled personal message on a post-it note than a fancy greeting card with nothing but a name at the bottom. So . . . color me embarrassed when I saw all the "they didn't even give me a CARD!! 11!!!" posts on the Knot. Yes, I attach a card to my gifts now.
Apparently in my family it is a faux pas to send RSVP cards and expect people to return them.
Also, we asked that in lieu of gifts that people make a donation to their favorite charity. Somewhere Miss Manners is still clutching her pearls.
