Thrilling, I know. But I have house with carpet on 3 levels, covering every square inch except for the kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms. Add to that 2 cats and 2 messy kids, and it is becoming clear that my 7 year old, $120 Eureka, from Target, isn't going to cut it.
I need something that is easy to maneuver, will do just as well on a nasty berber in the basement as it will on semi-decent quality carpet in the bedrooms. And it MUST be easy to use on stairs. Does such a thing even exist? I hate vacuuming stairs more than I can put into words.
I'm excited to have a bigger house, but my God, I'm sick to death of vacuuming it already. I know, everyone on here has cleaning ladies, and I'm clearly still GBCNpoor, but just humor me and pretend that you clean your own houses.
Good ones? Overrated ones? Commencing the countdown until someone tells me about their Dyson Pet.

I'm new so I don't know if I am missing a joke about the Dyson Pet but I have one and love it. It's 6 years old and still works wonderfully. I use the attachment to do the stairs. It keeps up with 2 kids, a dog and a cat.
Hoover pet t series. I like it but I will admit its awkward on the stairs. But you can actually turn off the brushes when you use the attachment which is nice!
All I can add is that I have a standard Dyson and it has never terribly impressed me.
See, this is what I've heard too. I remember reading in Consumer Reports a few years back that the Dyson isn't really all that fantastic. But of course, I have no idea what they rated as better.
Perhaps I should spring for a Consumer Reports subscription, as well as a vacuum.
Here it is, I think it's $100 off through the end of the month
ooh, interesting.
So I've never used a canister. Is it a pain to drag that thing around behind you? Like, do you have to whip it around and reposition it, or does it just follow the hose easily as you work your way around the room? Does it really pick up a lot of dirt and dust? Because I'm a big skeptical about the long hose being able to maintain suction.

Love my Dyson animal! lol it's like 7 or 8 years old and still going strong with 3 cats. It gets so much cat hair out of the carpets. But... I can't imagine dragging that thing up and down the stairs for a multi level home. It has a nice attachment with a roller bar that would be great on stairs. It is just a heavy unit for actually getting it to the other levels. My friends mom bought 2 so she could have it already on each floor.
About 2 months before finding out we were moving, we purchased a Shark Navigator. I am still disgusted to this day what was still in my carpets left over from my old Bissel. While doing the stairs isn't the most convenient (tips over if you stretch the hose too much), it gets them as clean as the flat floors so that's all that matters to me. I don't think stairs are ever easy to do. But the entire thing was light weight and easy to carry.
I spent a day contemplating accepting the move because I would have to put the Shark in storage. Seriously.
I have used a Dyson in the past and while it worked well and also picked up much more than my Bissel but while helping a friend clean their house, their Dyson ruined their rug because it damn near unraveled the rug by sucking a single string.
