Settled a debate between DH and I.

Did Bruce Wayne did at the end of the movie? I thought he obviously lived with Morgan Freeman's character talking about how the autopilot was fixed and then seeing them at the cafe at the end.

DH thought the guy was just imagining seeing him happy with catwoman at the end.

I interpreted it as him surviving and being with Selina Kyle in Paris. I agree about the autopilot thing--it's pointless to bring that up otherwise.

I also thought it meant he survived & got to "move on" with his life like they talked about him not being able to do earlier on in the movie. And Selina Kyle got her "clean slate."

Um. Tell your DH it's TDKR and not Inception lol. He was alive.

I've heard several other people assume that he died, but I believe he survived.

Earlier in the movie Alfred discussed how he and Bruce checked in on each other yearly but pretended to not see each other at a cafe when Bruce was "missing" prior to becoming Batman. I assumed the end of the movie was the same check in that occurred in the past, demonstrating that he was alive and well.

I don't think that's right. Every year Alfred would go to that cafe hoping to see Bruce but Alfred never did...until the ending of the movie.

Yeah, they went ahead with the schmaltzy hollywood ending. Batman lives happily ever after. Because apparently that happens now.
