Regarding Transubstantiation, do all Catholics believe this or is it something that people believe differently? Because I remember in school kids talking about it and when I asked them do you really believe that the wafer is really the body they all said no. I've never asked someone this as an adult. I wouldn't want to offend nor for someone to think I was asking in a mocking way. As a protestant, we took communion but is was more symbolic than anything else. In the Episcopal church we are taught Consubstantiation.
Also, do Catholics drink wine with the Eucharist? I know some people have told me that the they only take the wafer alone or dunked in the wine but they don't drink wine. The Episcopal church I attend does the wafer and wine together. Growing up we had grape juice and bread so the first time I drank in the Episcopal church I was like whoa Nelly that's real wine. I didn't know if Catholics drank wine or not.
Since this has a bit to do with the topic at hand, just saw this vid of a way less-than-conventional Lutheran pastor speaking, and I so dig where she's coming from.

#1. You're supposed to. That's the big difference between Catholics and other Christians.
#2. You can take one or the other or both. Most people take the host (wafer, sometimes bread) or the host and the wine. You can dunk the wafer in the wine, but most people don't do that. It is real wine. I usually skip it because I am afraid of communal germs.
