I'm sorry my dad is a drafter (for air planes), so I can some what relate. He was laid off at Boeing several times during his career. He was a temp for a long time at another company and it took about four years before he was hired on FT.
I'm so sorry!! I can imagine how stressed you're feeling! Are you open to other types of jobs, do you have additional skill sets? I don't know much in your field but of course will keep my eyes open.
Something similar happened to H's brother last year. He does something with blueprints and AC units for commercial buildings, so his company was hit too. They gave him the choice of work a few more month at full time and then be laid off, with a recall notice when business picked up or work at a reduced work week till business picked up. He chose to work reduced hours. He was able to claim unemployment for the gap in hours and said somehow he still brought home the same amount and had a 3 day weekend every week.
I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they can lay you off for claiming partial unemployment benefits.
No harm in looking for something new and applying for unemployment in the meantime. Is there any freelance work you could do on the side?
*vibes*
this!! good luck on your job search. i have a head hunter friend..most her jobs are entry level, but entry level might be better than nothing, if you can't bill overhead.
