Seems a lot of the women here have had progesterone screenings and/or supplements after a successful cycle (some even during the 2ww). When the RE nurse scheduled my first beta I asked about that and she just said "no, we don't do that". She's a bit abrupt so I didn't inquire further. I know my cousin did the suppositories after her successful IUI, though I don't know if there were any known progesterone issues. I'm kind of worried because how can they know I don't need them without checking it? Can others tell me the reason you were given supplements?
My progesterone was borderline (15 - which was the highest it had ever been after any of the 5 IUIs I had) at 7 dpo and still borderline when I got my first betas at 11dpo so I was put on progesterone until 12w. If my progesterone started higher or went up at a normal rate, it wouldn't have been prescribed.
They put me on progesterone (I think they put everyone on it after IUI) and kept testing it weekly after the positive beta. My levels were always around 29 on it, I think. I weaned off it just a few days ago, at the start of 10w.
I never took it for an IUI cycle, but we did those with an OB and they didn't check my blood. The only actual cycle we completed with the RE was IVF and I started PIO the night of my ER.
I don't think it hurts to get on it. Do you know if they've checked your levels? My levels were always super high but I still did shots every other night until 11 weeks.

No they have never checked it! The only time it's ever been checked was during Day 21 bloodwork on a regular cycle. I did just get this morning's beta results though, it's almost tripled in 48 hrs (675 to 1808) so I'm feeling a little more relieved I guess.
You got some high numbers there starburst604, I wonder if it's twins!
One of my friends just got bfp from IUI and she's not on progesterone, at least not yet. She's had 2 betas, and goes for first u/s Monday. I'll let you know if I find out she gets put on it.

krystee how are you weaning off? My OB told me I could stop taking it at 10 weeks or go a little longer if it made me feel better and I want to keep it going a little longer. I kind of want to go to 14 weeks since our last loss was just past 13 but I don't know if that's crazy.
OP I know that the research is a little sketchy on whether it is actually needed on a non-IVF pregnancy so many doctors brush it off. I honestly feel like it's probably more of a placebo for me. Was your 7 DPO progesterone okay? If so you're probably fine.

coribelle I figured it was something like you said, that research doesn't support it being a necessity for nonIVF. Yes my post O progesterone level was ok, at least according to my OB who ordered it.
nmosrob - ultrasound is scheduled for 9/23 so we'll see for sure who is in there! I have one last beta on Sat, curious to see that number.
coribelle26 I took two a day through 9 weeks and then went to one a day for the 10th week (per my doctor). Now I'm done. I was scared I'd spot or something after coming off, but I haven't (knock on wood).
I did progesterone suppositories with my IUIs with the OB and first couple with the RE, then switched to progesterone in oil (PIO) for the last two IUIs and IVF come with the RE. I stayed on PIO until about 12 weeks.
I was told it was precautionary, that it wouldn't hurt anything to be on it, and could only help.
I had to stop it suddenly at 11 weeks (instead of 12) since there was a screw up with my insurance and I was going on a cruise so couldn't wait for the problem to be fixed. They assured me it was more than fine to stop at 11 weeks and that my levels had always been fine, but still so nerve wracking! I did keep taking my baby aspirin a few weeks later than they said was necessary. It's reassuring to take meds, even tho it was probably the placebo effect for me too.
My original RE never prescribed it and said that it isn't necessary etc after a non-IVF cycle. After 2 losses I got a second opinion and took progesterone when I did get pregnant but it was more at my insistence than anything.
