They are often returnable (at least items bought online)! Just returned a FS sweatshirt I bought online at the store and was able to return it with no hassle. Manager says he allows it when people are nice, and that at any rate if you call the 800 number and say nicely that you didn't like the item or fit, they'll almost always put a note on the account that un-final sales the item (and the stores can then see that note).

As someone who works retail, being nice and calm goes a long way to getting the resolution you want. I will go out if my way to track down a "sold out" item for a nice person in a bind. Mean? Not so much. That takes my time and usually will cost me money from lost sales.
Also come in during slower times. Busy weekend? Very little chance of getting something against policy that will take extra time to achieve.
I do a lot against company policy in order to create a good customer experience and loyalty. My company supports that because without customers, we are out of business.
I have always been nervous to order jcrew final sale online! Glad to know there are exceptions.
i'm going to have to try this again, b/c i used to have no trouble returning final sale items online to the stores. but the past couple of times i've tried, they've told me no and i've just let it go. but hearing this, i'll try to push them a bit!
i wish every store would just do away with final sale - it's a real deterrent for me. but obviously better from the MM perspective!
