To cut this short: we bought a foreclosure and figured out soon after moving in that the granite countertops absorb water. Not all areas but those that gets lot of use/traffic. Also I think it needs a really good scrub (more than the soap and water I have been doing). Anyone here DIY some form of restoration? Any kits your recommend?
My options on the island are limited so anything available on Amazon would probably be the best. I will need to do this in the kitchen, the master bath and a half bath
Do you think sealing is enough? You mean stained when they absorb water it stained permanently?
If they're stained permanently (tomato sauce, etc) there are ways to try to pull the stain out. I haven't done it but I know there are articles online.
We had granite that absorbed water and was darker in those spots until it dried. If yours is like that, you may just need to get a really good sealer and do it like twice a year. Some granite patterns are more porous than others.

Thanks! I think the stains are all water and they do disappear when they dry. There is a little bit of scaling and some build up but I guess I just did not scrub hard enough.
