AKA how I'm probably going to be involved in a dispute between Hawaii police, a towing company, and Hawaii 5-0.
All because I lent a car to a friend.
Basically, I want to know if there are statues on appropriate signage for towaway zones. Is it specific, or is there a "reasonable person" standard? If it's a reasonable person, we're golden as even the cops (yes, cops, don't get me started on my friend's style of reaction) agreed they would have parked where she did given the signage.
Also, I saw there are predatory towing restrictions in some states. How can I find, and understand them, for mine?
I know, no legal advice I'm just looking on how to start and understand options. If it were me, I'd just pay, but this friend feels responsible, and the fines are half her paycheck. Also, I saw the situation and agree it's complete bullshit the way they set up the no parking zone. I just don't want to fight if the laws aren't on our side.
I would imagine any statutes you would have/find would all be local. Does your particular city have a website? Can you contact your local municipality?

The best part of the crazy day? That the guy at the towing company said to me "Good thing she's not in California because those Iranians are mean." Um, friend is half Iranian. Also, lovely racism. Coming from a minority. When I was trying to be conciliatory. And he was being an ass.
Tow away zones are supposed to be clearly marked. Something similar happened to me once and I took pics to prove there was no way to know I couldn't park there and I lost anyway. It's worth a try, but good luck.

The situation here is that there are always special events no parking signs. In that case, they clearly label every spot with those orange and white striped barricades and a printed sign with the date.
In the spot last night, each parking spot was clearly labeled no parking sat/sun. Makes sense, since it was Wed.
However, on the median, like every 10 cars or so, was a similar sign that said no parking wed.
To me, this is ridiculous. We're not only used to individual spots being marked, but with all those signs saying the same thing, who in the dark is going to pick out the one random that says something different in a sea of otherwise identical signs?
