I am looking to commission a custom knit Christmas stocking for DD. Everyone in my family has them so I have a model/template. I had DH's done 6 years ago but have gotten no response from the woman who made it.
Sadly, I don't know where one would go for this other than a suggestion of etsy. Can I knit something like this? Sure. Do I have time to knit something like this? Probably not. I don't really know any knitters that take commissions, mostly because there's no way to get paid anywhere near enough to make it a reasonable wage. I know that sounds mean, but it's really common for handmade goods to be significantly undervalued. Without knowing pattern details, I'd estimate a custom knitted Christmas stocking to probably be in the range of 20-30 hours of work. (or more, if it's an intricate pattern or skinny yarn)
Check with a local yarn shop (Not a Michiaels or similar store)- there may be a recommendation of someone who could do this for you. Many yarn shops have a Knitting Guild, or Knitting Circle of some kind - perhaps a member of one of their groups?
I have an etsy person - can you send a pic. We've had this done for our kids. I wonder if yours is the same as mine!
I would love this! I will pm you my email address if that is easier.
Do you happen to have the green vintage ones? These are very common as an old stocking pattern my entire family has them and there are a number of Etsy people and craft people I've come into contact with that still make these. I have one of each for my daughters. I got your PM and I will send you her info hopefully these are the classic stockings that you have. I'm pretty sure she premakes them and then just adds the name of the tops of the turnaround is actually pretty fast.
