Has anyone else noticed the ad for liquid unisom on Sprout? Now why in the world would an adult need liquid unisom? The pills are are tiny? You're not fooling me! lol.
That's all I've got today. We're headed to the zoo because dd1 told me that she dreamed about going to the zoo because there were animals are on her panties. Who can say no to that?
I slowly backed out of the vacation post. I am the truancy police at my job. Rest assured, no matter your schools attendance policy, if you are that concerned about taking your kid out of school for a once in a life time family vacation, it's not you I'm coming after. Promise.
DS2 has his 1 year well visit this morning. His appointment is at 9:30 and DD has swim lessons at 10:30. Everything is within a few miles of each other and I plan on being at the pedi's office early but still, it's going to be tight. Also, I'd really like my older two to get their flu shots while we're in there but DH is swamped at work and I'll have all three by myself so..... Maybe I'll see if we can drop in next week for the older two.
My shins were hurting a bit during my run yesterday and I think I need better shoes. I am oddly intimidated by the running store though. It is right next to the liquor store that sells the good Stiegl radlers though so I may just get over it and make a dual stop. The last thing I want to do is get injured right when I'm getting into a groove.
My very best friend and baby's godmother is flying in tomorrow. We have a packed weekend, Oktoberfest downtown, college football tailgating for my and DH's alma mater rivalry game, and then the baby's birthday party Sunday. I need to have a productive day, my house is kind of a disaster and I need to get a firm timeline in place for baking cupcakes/birthday prep etc.
I have been sick the last week and was miserable. I finally feel better. Hopefully J doesn't get it since he just got over the Ear infection last week too.
I'm taking J for 6 month pictures today. I really hope they turn out better than our 3 month ones.
DD3 is home today with DH, who is going to try to work remotely, lol. She had diarrhea at daycare yesterday and policy is she stays home the next day. She was actually so excited to be staying home and saying bye to Mommy this morning and not Daddy.
Thank you to all for the solidarity following DS's terrifying tumble down the stairs last night.
I got up every 2 hours overnight to make sure I could rouse him, and he was fine.
Amazingly (stunningly), this morning we can't find a mark on him - save for a light bruise we THINK is new as of last night on his forehead. We poked/prodded all over and can't find any point of pain - he's running, giggling, talking, eating, playing as normal.
We have his 18 mos well visit tomorrow, so he'll be getting the Pedi once over too.
I don't know how it's possible that he's essentially unscathed - but I said an extra thank you to his guardian angels this morning.
New gate slated to arrive tomorrow - installation is tomorrow evening's game plan.
I don't know if this is a sleep regression or something but J was up at 1:30, 5 and 6. He was inconsolable unless fed. Now I'm worried that stopping pumping at work is tanking my supply. He had 2 bottles and nursed 5 times, I don't think he should have been that hungry. Although we did fail at solids yesterday since we were super busy. This baby is trying to kill me.
For those who have had 18-mos well visits recently - I'm a dork and took the time last night to count (*cough*andwritedown*cough*) DS's word/phrases, signs, animal sounds, and body parts he can identify in prep for our visit tomorrow.
Was that the stupidest waste of time ever - or were you asked for general guidance on vocab (rather than just - "does child have 5 words" etc?)
Both DH and I are sick. DD seems fine and I am hoping by some miracle that she doesn't get it. I haven't been sick in a long time and I forgot how awful it is - yuck!
B woke up earlyish today (7 - don't hate) and was cranky by 7:45 so I threw him in the bath. Morning bath is so much easier than nightime bath but we usually don't have time. Plus we did it in my bathroom so it is all new and exciting to him. Meanwhile I need him to start learning some new words because the whining and grunting and pointing is so frustrating. He's frustrated too but I don't know what he wants most of the time!

We just had our 15 month appointment and I was so worried but the doc just asked if B had 5 words and DH immediately said yes and that was it. Sidenote: he DOESN'T have five words and my husband is just bad at counting. But yes I went from nervous to like "um so you don't even want to know what the words are?"

DD has words for 90% of the things she wants/needs/any issues she has. But still the pointing and whining. Despite us insisting her to use words to say what she wants.

Our pedi just asked generally how her vocab was. We said she has many words and that was it. But I still count once in awhile just for my mental health.
Girls' weekend is the gift that keeps on giving. First, I had it to look forward to/plan for weeks and weeks. Then, the actual weekend was a perfect mix of easy travel, laughing, exploring, running, sightseeing, good food, theater going, shopping, etc., and I came home to a spotless house, bathed kids, laundry done, trash out, DD1's nails painted (although she told me "daddy did it wrong"). Now, since he spent almost three days alone with the kids, DH is trying to do way more than his fair share of the parenting stuff when he's home. In the past, this effect has lasted a good two weeks.
DH was disappointed they didn't ask for specifics about words at DD's 15mo appointment. He was like, "They could have asked her what a sheep says! SHE WOULD HAVE TOLD THEM!"
lol
Will we get extra bonus Pedi points if DS has TWO different words for his penis? He'd be happy to say them, then show the doc, and then offer to let her play with it too.

How old is she? So you're saying this doesn't get better?

19 months. Example from this morning. She was sitting in her chair eating breakfast. Said "water". I gave her the sippy cup with water, "here's your water". "No, no, nooooooooooooo" cue the whining and pointing to MY cup of water. Or when she ran to the pantry, saying "fish" for gold fish. Got her her snack cup filled with gold fish. More "No no noooooooooooo" and throwing of said snack cup. She wanted gold fish in a bowl.

I just found a baby (12-18 mo) Olaf costume on target.com. I've been looking but every place that had them that small was $45. Target had it for $30. Done. Ordered. I have Elsa and Anna dresses and a baby Olaf. Halloween is done!!!!

We haven't had sunshine in days. The weather report said we should be getting some today. I hope they were right because I have diapers and baby clothes that really need to be sunned.

ETA: maybe my kid is just a spoiled brat.
Nope. Entirely normal for that age. My three year old DD2 does this still sometimes. My advice it to pick your battles and be consistent. Give her some choices (red cup or blue cup), give her what she wants sometimes (fish in a bowl instead of a cup), and stand your ground on what you think is important. This is an exhausting stage...But it does get better. Promise!
Very random: go out and get OPI Do You Have this Color In Stock-holm? polish. I'm obsessed. It's a gorgeous blue-purple--the picture I took doesn't do it justice.

DS just smashed his thumb in a door playing around. Poor kid, that scream he makes when something really hurts is heart wrenching. We're recovering with Sesame Street and cuddles. He keeps holding up his thumb to me and saying "ow."
Temperatures finally down into the 80s today! We should do something outside to celebrate.
