Bayer has given quite a bit to his campaign according to the Times of London (something like $250k).
Given that almost the entire cabinent of UK gov't is of similar pedigree (top UK public schools and then Oxbridge) as Mitt (top US prep Stanford/BYU/HLS/HBS) it is shocking they don't like them
It's not shocking at all. Mitt Romney has been totally disparging the who British system - the National Health Service, the social services, pretty much everything that the Brits love. Really, I'm surprised when any Republicans are popular over there. They're the Ying to the British Yang.

QFT - and also, the UK right wing is the equivalent of the US middle ground, and the US "normal" right seems pretty extreme to most UK people - anecdotal, but it seems to be the case. And it makes sense - Most of the big issues the right bang on about are non issues in the UK. Our conservatives are quietly religious if at all, we already have national health care, we don't have guns and no one wants them, and abortion is a choice for the woman to make. They occasionally panic about immigration...but thats about it, lol.
Bayer probably has some business-y angle for supporting Romney.
Germans are generally liberal-ish and for the most part don't understand America's aversion to healthcare reform, gun control, etc., so I doubt most regular people care about him much, much less like him.
