I don't think so. I was not a virgin at 18 but I was until 17 and 3/4, haha. I have plenty of friends that were virgins until much later than 18. Also plenty that lost it before then.
It IS pretty weird for MTV to pick that age. Why not 21 or 25? I know nothing about this TV show.
I get the impression the show is more about showing the different reasons why people are virgins. And the efforts people will go through to either stay that way or desperately change that status.
And one girl was planning on doing it with her (douchey) BF on Valentines day, and she was all "I've waited SO LONG! This is my identity. I've been "the virgin" for years!".

But I've only seen 2 episodes.
I didn't really get that impression. It seems like they all have to "confess" their affliction to any suitors as soon as possible.
"By the way. I'm a virgin. You cool with that?"
"By the way. I have 6 nipples. You cool with that?"

Yeah, in this day and age, within the typical MTV-watching group, I think it is outside the norm to be a virgin at 18. But this is in no way scientific, just my own thought.
I had to stop watching MTV when all of the CHILDREN on the shows just irritated the shit out of me. Instead of being like "wow, the drama!" I was all GET OFF MY LAWN WITH YOUR COMPLAINING, WHIPPERSNAPPERS.
Also, if it's SO unusual to be a virgin at 18 anymore such that it becomes your entire identity I'm going to have a stroke and lock up my children forever.

I don't understand why people are surprised that MTV, once again, has put out complete and total garbage that fucks with teen/young adult heads, disguised as "reality/thought provoking/discussion inducing" television.
If I could pull the plug on one network, right now, this would be it. I think I hate it more than Fox News (ok, maybe not, but it's really close).

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I think some of the people are about wanting to lose it and others are dealing with it being tough when you don't want to and the social pressures they face, not to mention being able to date someone and them being OK with not having sex.
And sadly, I do think 18 is now on the old side, which is ridiculous. But some of the people on the show have been in their 20s too.
I always thought I was in some sort of Mormon bubble because it was far more unusual to be having sex in high school than to be a virgin. High school movies made me feel like I was in this special, non-pressure place. I lost my v-card at 19 though, to a ONS with a band guy. Ahhh...memories.
