It's not really a spoiler, because I don't know if it's true. I'm watching episode 4 right now, when Clara does that telepathic interface thing with the TARDIS, and the Doctor says that it can extrapolate her whole life up until her moment of death.
That's the SECOND TIME this season that they have referenced a prediction of Clara's death and she has said she doesn't want to know about it.
They're totally going to kill her off, right?
Is it wrong that that idea excites me?
(If anyone knows for certain, please don't confirm or deny. I just want to discuss and theorize.)
Yeah, I knew she was leaving. I hope the writers do a better job with the next companion, whoever it is.
I feel like they're setting up Danny Pink to be the new companion based on 'Listen' and the Doctor's refusal to take soldier girl with him & Clara in 'Into the Dalek' because he doesn't like soldiers.
I think in Listen you're supposed to assume Clara is the grandparent Orson Pink is talking about but I think it's a trick.
And I think Danny & the Doctor would be a fun buddy comedy, plus it would be a nice dynamic change from Doctor + pretty girl companion.

Oh! I love all of this! I was sort of thinking that they might be setting Danny up to be the next Mickey or Rory (like, companion's companion sort of thing) but I like your plan so much better! I hope they do this.
I love when DW has a male companion without another woman around. I loved the Craig episodes. (and TBH, the Donna episodes were more like buddy companion too)

Aww I don't want her to die, but I am ready for a new Companion. Interested to see how they wrap up her story. I'd definitely be in favor of a different type of Doctor/Companion dynamic, although I have liked her with Twelve more than I ever did with Eleven.

I really like this idea except one of my main problems with the Moffat era (besides the often lazy writing to resolve a conflict) is how the Bechdel test has failed on a greater scale than during the RTD era. Switching Clara for Danny, then there's a complete lack of female representation in the show. I'm tired of Clara, but with 12 we've been seeing more of the Clara a la Asylum of the Daleks than the one who traveled so obnoxiously with 11.

I've more or less just accepted that the show is never going decent female story lines while Moffat is showrunner. Maybe that makes me a bad feminist, but he obviously doesn't give a shit about it.
I've actually grown to like Clara in the last 2 episodes, but I love the idea of Danny and the Doctor. I think the change would be good, because it seems like they fall too easily into a romance (or quasi romance, or almost romance) when it is a female companion.
I just have to add that it is bugging me in every episode that the Doctor is cock-clocking Clara and Danny's dates. Seriously, WTH Moffat. If the Companion is supposed to be a full on "companion" (wink wink nudge nudge) then have at it. Quit waffling about the edges.

Trailers for next week were totally playing that up. And the end of this Saturday's episode implied he's doing it on purpose.

Yeah this is bugging me too, because it almost steps into the romance territory again. Like the naked from the Christmas episode. I have to keep telling myself that the Doctor is kind of like a child and he just likes attention, and not Clara (in that way).
I'll add a disclaimer that I haven't seen any episodes of the new season (we don't have cable TV). But I have heard about Clara leaving at the end of the season.
I've got a prediction, though I don't have much to go on. And based off the fact that I'm not a fan of Clara either. She just doesn't seem to click with the Doctor like the other companions have. The new Doctor is supposed to be more serious, and darker in general.
They focused quite a bit on that leaf that caused Clara's parents to meet (if I recall, that was the story). What if somehow, something goes wrong, and the Leaf Incident never happens? Thus erasing Clara? Not sure how it would work. But a lot of Doctor Who's storylines don't always make sense when the past is changed.
It would be darker compared to the others, I think. We know Rose is happy with Doctor 2.0, Martha is happy with Mickey. Ohh... Donna's is sad, though she is happy. And Amy & Rory's ending is sad, but we assume they lived happily together the rest of their time. I think it would be a nice change.
