Day 13!
I have done all the diets before. My favorite was probably Atkins because it made me feel amazing. It's the same story for me as it is for a lot of people...diets work great until they don't anymore.
I've had a lot of success in the past with Weight Watchers. I lost about 40 pounds when I was 20 and kept it off with little effort until my first year of law school when I gained back about half of it. So I went back on it and quickly lost the weight again. However, when I moved across country 5 years ago I gained ALL of it back plus some and until recently haven't been able to get it under control. I don't know why I just don't have the discipline for counting points anymore. Or maybe it's just the expense. It's $40/month to attend the meetings. That's really the only diet I've 100% tried. I half assed South Beach just before my wedding just to eliminate bloat in my tummy but that's it and it was awful. I hated it.
I'm very happy so far with this paleo style of eating. It's easy and satisfying.
I've done every diet under the sun. Weight watchers, Mediterranean diet, the zone, the flat belly diet. The list goes on. I had varying success with them, but what seems to really help me is limited sugar and processed carbs. I'm hoping I will see some results with whole 30!
ilovebed - I don't eat a whole lot of fruit except bananas. I find that when I eat more fruit, I crave sugar. I sometimes have some of my H's fruit, but not often. It's definitely something you have to be honest with yourself about - is it a helpful part of your diet, or is it a sugar crutch, KWIM?

Day 1 for me too! I'm nervous, but excited. I read It Starts With Food last week, so I've been anxious to get going.
I have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm also hoping for other health benefits (mostly just feeling better in general and having more energy). The only real "diet" I've done in the past is Weight Watchers, and while I lost weight on it each time I did it, I always gained it back eventually. I really need to redefine my relationship with food, which is what I am hoping to do starting today.

I ate a ton of grapes this weekend. I had just bought a big bunch of them and they were so fresh and juicy and sweet. I felt like I was munching on them all day and it effected my blood sugar too much.

There in lies the problem. IMO, I think eating fruit by itself is usually not a great idea. If that's all you have to eat and it's your only option, then fine. But I think fruit is best eaten in the context of a meal with protein, fat, and veggies. I think that sets you up for the best chance at success.
You guys I just had to very regretfully RSVP no to a really cool event. I'm on the board of my local chamber of commerce and each quarter we arrange for a special event for our patron members. This Thursday, a high end liquor store is opening it's fancy speakeasy themed tasting room for the event and will be offering tastings of small batch, locally made liquors. And the shop next door is an artisan chocolate shop and restaurant and will be catering it. Whaa. I'm not even going. I'm strong but I'm not a sadist.
