Ah, my OP isn't there...anyway, my door was hit. The woman was there, said she didn't cause the dent (I heard and saw it) and then blamed me (the spots are tight, but I was in my spot). Anyway, we were able to prove her car did it. She did start to become friendly, but the whole thing has me upset as I am not confrontational. I figured getting her name and number wouldn't hurt. I could tell she didn't get why I cared so much and thought i was being ridiculous. I hate making a mountain out of a mole hill. I know it was an accident on her part.
I was in her spot before as my door hit another door. I offered that person my name and number and apologized profusely. I never had to pay for it, but did let the other person know how sorry I was.

That is weird that your OP vanished! I don't think you should feel guilty for being upset over the damage that was done to your car. This is why we all have insurance (well in my state it is mandatory). i just have a skewed perspective due to super old car that while I love it, a small dent would hardly bother me.

I don't think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Our cars are 11 years old so I probably wouldn't bother repairing the damage, but I'd still expect someone to accept responsibility for any damage they cause.
if my car were new, i'd care and i'd get an estimate and ask her to pay. did you get her insurance information as well? the mark reduces the value on your car, if only by a few hundred dollars and if the scratch took off paint it needs to be fixed regardless of who pays because it's now more prone to rust. you didn't cause the damage, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

I'm not sure if there's a time that wouldn't tick me off. I mean, I'd probably be like "dude, watch it" if I was in the car I had in high school (the paint was chipping off the roof lol), but in my car now? I'd want information for repairs. I just spent $500 getting the hail dents removed and having spots touched up, so I don't care if it's 8 years old and therefore "not worthy" of being kept nice.
This is also why I get angry at the people who drive large vehicles here. If you can't get it in the lines, don't drive it. I've driven smaller and larger vehicles than what I drive now and I can get my car in the lines with ease.
I would have gotten her info and gotten an estimate for her to repair it. The fact that she tried to deny she did it when you were standing RIGHT FUCKING THERE would have pissed me off even moreso to make her pay for it. Whatabitch.
If you wanna fix it that's your choice she can't just assume you don't want it fixed
This was exactly my train of thought. I drove into the lot with a door looking fine and left with a dent. Why should I just shrug it off bc she seemed to think that's what I should do?
I was definitely annoyed that she tried to blame my parking job. Yea, it wasn't the best (they recently repaved the lot and made the spots TIGHT to get more in), but I was in the lines. If I knew my door hit someone's car, I would be apologizing profusely and offering whatever help I could. I wish people would just take responsibility for stuff. Yes, it was an accident. They happen. Own up to it.

I say call her and get her insurance info.
Not sure if you remember, but a guy backed into my parked car last year. Someone else saw it happen and said the guy was a jerk and laughed about it.
My car was new to me, but 6 years old at the time. He put a hole in my front bumper. It pissed me off that he laughed, and didn't leave me a note. I left a note on his windshield and he called and gave me his insurance info. His insurance cut me a check and we used it to fund a trip to NYC to see Annie. Ha! I didn't want to fix it because it's cosmetic only.
Fast forward to this summer. A nice couple with a young baby hit my rear bumper. It scratched it and took off the paint. They gave me their insurance info and were so nice about it. Honestly, it has been months, we have new insurance and I haven't filed it. I feel like a jerk even though this repair I actually need to make so that spot doesn't rust.
Should I file it? Or just pay OOP and chalk it up to Karma??
