What is their sleep like? I'm really struggling with S. I'm trying to get her to fall asleep on her own and it's not going well at all. I decided to try the swing for a week (gradually turning the speed down until it's off) but I can't even get her to sleep on the high setting without shaking it and she's still up every 2 hours. Are your kids going to sleep by themselves in their cribs and sttn?

F put herself to sleep when she was sleeping in the RnP but I haven't had much luck since switching to the PNP. Right now I'm letting her sleep in the swing and then transfer her. She wakes up once around 3:30 am or so and I just pop the paci back in her mouth and that seems to work. Every two hours sounds brutal! I'm sorry. Hope it gets better for you soon.

I'm sorry . I hope she starts sleeping better soon. It's so tough.
I nurse Ruby to almost sleep, then put her in her crib, and she does STTN almost all the time. I will say she's been a good sleeper since birth and I can't really take credit for any of it.
Are you anti sleep training? I'll sleep train at this point if I need to. (Sorry Dahli)
I try to put him down "drowsy but awake" and it does sometimes work. But if he starts crying then I just pick him up and nurse him. Lately a few times I've tried not nursing him (I mean he spends the whole evening on and off my boobs) and instead I rock him and sing. I would say it has worked half the times I've tried which is still decent. It takes longer though
And I'm like, isn't it all some kind of dependency? So if I don't nurse him to sleep but I rock him to sleep. Then he "needs" rocking
Ugh I don't know. I think far too much about this
I mean I should just be in bed now since it's his longest stretch. Aaah
Oh and I am trying to ignore the fact that he's still in the magic sleep suit in the co sleeper bassinet (because it's too small for him to attempt to roll)
As soon as I take out the pnp he will probably start rolling, I will have to ditch the suit and then the shit will really hit the fan
I think he'll be out of my room sometime after he turns one lol

By the way, if you want to borrow my 6-9 month sleep suit, let me know! It keeps them from rolling for awhile. C doesn't fit anymore. Lol.
I'd like to say I don't need it because there's no way I will have him in it much longer! But sadly I think this to be not true. I will do anything for sleep...
I assume what will happen in a few weeks is: take out pack in play, put him in it in sleep sack. Wake up every ten minutes. Give up one hour in, squish him back into 3-6m suit, tell you to express mail me the suit the next day

The only time he puts himself to sleep is in the stroller or car and I'd say 1/2 the time he cries himself to sleep.
Our typical night he's usually down around 7:30, he used to wake around 1:30ish but since he quit the RNP it's more like 11, that's usually a quick feed and then he will go back down for 2-4 hours and always ends up in bed with me around 3ish where he snacks on and off until morning (anywhere from 6-8:30).
He cannot put himself to sleep at all, I don't know when I'll be ready to sleep train, overally he's still 10 times better than Daniel so I feel like my breaking point is still pretty far out. Of course last night sucked royally and I've already had to go up and rock him tonight so maybe my breaking point is coming soon....

HAHAHAHA, no. Not even close. I hold her for all naps, with white noise on. I have to rock and nurse her for 1-2 hours before putting her down at night, then I'll get 3-4 hour stretches if I'm lucky, 1-2 hours if I'm not.
I was thinking of you while I was bouncing S on a piece of playground equipment yesterday.
laurack, I drove myself nuts with the whole drowsy but awake thing with V and I'm well on my way to doing it again. But I know at this point, V was in the crib with the Sleep Suit so I feel like I'm doing worse this time around.
Everything I read says that 4-6 months is the magic window to teach them to fall asleep. Well it's also the window they get too big for the rnp, the swing, and the cosleeper and they start rolling and getting teeth.
I think with Matilda I cracked when she was 6 months. I don't feel close to cracking yet this time though. I mean if he just would wake twice to eat I wouldnt bother sleep training. It's the every 1-2 crap that kills me. So as long as he only does that sometimes maybe I won't have to Ferber?
I just don't know how I can with a tiny two bedroom house.

Well, Calvin is 8 months but he's nowhere near STTN and he very rarely sleeps in his bed, we cosleep. At 4 months, he would fall asleep on his own in the swing but it didn't last long. I have to nurse him to sleep and then attempt to transfer him suuuuper carefully but usually I don't even bother and just gold him for naps and sleep with him at night. Baby sleep is so hard, I'm sorry.
Luke is a terrible sleeper and I am exhausted. He's sleeping in our bed still bc he won't sleep longer than a half hour in the crib. Even still, he's up every two hours. He's five months. Ugh.

Just popping in to say that I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! It's brutal. I hope she pulls herself together soon and you can get some rest. (Hug)
J used to be a decent sleeper, but she is pretty terrible now. We co-sleep and every night is a blur of wake ups/nursing. I'll probably have my H try night weaning around christmastime, that's when James became a good sleeper when I finally night weaned him at 14 months!

My kid doesn't sleep. I don't know how I still function. Last night he was up every 1.5 hours and that was a good night. He only naps 20-30 minutes at a time, in the swing or while nursing.
Hugs to all the mamas of poor sleepers. It's brutal.
Eta: He sleeps in bed with me at night on a crib wedge (dh has moved to the basement). This week he's had to sleep in the rnp beside my bed because he's been sick and kept choking on mucous. He naps in my bed while nursing or in the swing. Lately he's only been napping in the carseat while I drive so no rest for me. We use his crib for storage right now.

Thanks. I really thought I got a good sleeper this time around!
You can drive yourself crazy too thinking "what was it??" When they have a good night. All day I've been pondering, why did he sleep so well last night (I'm considering just two feeds a good night) ... Was it because I has him in a short sleeve onesie under his sleep suit? Was he too warm in the pjs? Was it something I ate or didn't eat?
Sigh.
I remember this with Matilda, when she'd have a good night I would be going insane trying to replicate the conditions the next night! Like oh she had a bath! She didn't have a bath! She ate pears! Lol

Me too. I laugh at myself when I read my older posts from when he was like 3-6 weeks old and how is was "such a better sleeper than Lincoln!" NOT.
