So I have been binge watching Torchwood on Netflix the last week and DH watched one episode with me and had this commentary "So it is like X-Files but with aliens. Interesting. Have fun with that."
I started watching because I had finished all of the Doctor Who episodes on Netflix at the time, and wanted more. Not the same. I appreciate the campy aspect of Doctor Who, Torchwood was much more serious. It's fine if you're looking for that, but it's just too dramatic for me.
And honestly, I was hoping for more back story on Jack. Didn't really get it. Finished the series and felt let down.
My own fault though. I didn't read up on it before watching.
I thought that too and then I watched the episode with the folks from 1953. The speech Jack gave the guy from 1953 to try to get his to not give up (talking about how he too is a man outside of his time and how he gets lonely) and then when he sat and held 1953 man's hand when he decided to go through with his suicide...I think that is what turned is around for me on Jack.
This has me wanting to rewatch the X-files. I have only watched one Torchwood, but it was ehhh, I couldn't get into it. My son spent the entire time complaining the Doctor wasn't on when Jack was.

The same weekend I finished watching Torchwood, I started watching the X-Files on Netflix :) I had started watching it regularly the last few years in was on, so I am sure I missed some episodes when watching old ones during re-runs.
My husband would complain about Owen. During conversation with him, Owen was "The Ugly One"
