We take taxis all the time and never use a car seat. There is no taxi here that would wait for us to install 2 car seats. Neither would I ever lug around 2 convertibles. Never thought I would be doing this, but that's what everyone does here so we just assimilated into that crazy unsafe practice.

This is us too. I do avoid taking a taxi as much as possible but it happens about once a month, usually if I'm carrying too much stuff to manage in the bus.

Eh, we took a taxi with no car seat when we were in Disneyland. It was about a 5 minute drive to the hotel. DD was 2.55 (lol) years old and average sized.

You can put your own car seat in a taxi. We've done that, but be prepared to do it quickly and I recommend using the seat belt method.
Last time I flew alone with DS I didn't feel like dragging our car seat along. We got dropped off at the airport and had a car seat at our destination. Our return flight got back really late and I didn't want to ask for a ride, thinking I'd just take a cab 10 minutes to my car. Then it dawned on me I had no car seat. I spent our layover calling SoCal cab companies and wrangling a toddler. All I got was that CA law says they have to have a car seat and no taxi companies have car seats. They said it was up to the driver if they'd let you ride and some said they didn't really follow the car seat law :/ I couldn't find any clear exception for taxis. Luckily a friend got my message and showed up at the airport because I had no idea what I was doing to do.
