Imma say it. Wes is not cute to me. He's a law school version of Urkel.
Not cute like sexy, at all. Just cute. Like a puppy.
Chile. I wouldn't even want him if he were a puppy. He looks like one of those dudes that you break off one good time and then the mofo won't leave when you've had your fill of him.
Shit. Even if he would hold up during sex. One good squeeze of the Kegels and that fool might break in half.
I have watched the first ten minutes and want to throw shit. First year crim law is not like that, people.
(I have not read the thread yet because I don't want to see spoilers. Sorry if this has been covered).
ETA: but Viola Davis's eye makeup in the first scene is amazing. It's fucking glowing.
You mean a whole lecture hall full of students doesn't normally get to interview defendants in high profile murder cases en masse? And they don't get to run into courtrooms during trials to present evidence that eluded seasoned attorneys? I feel so deceived!

Look, I'm used to bullshit in law shows, but this was a whole new level of fuckwittery. At least Franklin & Bash is a comedy.
ETA: and now that I've read the thread, I see this was covered.
asdfjkl, my husband is like that during any science fiction shown. Personally, I gave up on legal shows years ago because of this nonsense. I liked HTOGAWM but I found it really, really hard to get past the unreality.
It's Shonda. I expect the level of accuracy as I do from greys. Which is to say none.
Now I personally know how wrong greys is so it's harder to suspend disbelief (especially the terrible season with the alzheimers trial). It will be easier with law since my degree is from l&o.

If it makes you feel any better, a 1L comes busting in after a late night of studying with a *brilliant* procedural idea: To ask for a directed verdict. Which she shot down quickly.
But let's face it: a show that actually resembles law school would be really boring. I loved my crim class, but the most exciting thing that happened in it from a tv perspective was when the prof threw an eraser at a student. He also dressed up as a judge and held a moot court with 6 of us. We did fine, but nothing particularly brilliant, which would make awful tv.
And can you imagine if they showed a civ pro class? An entire episode on kids stumbling through Pennoyer--yippee!

The Paper Chase was authentic and awesome. The white Urkel with his perpetual outlining? That is funny. It could totally be done. My Civ Pro prof threw an eraser at a kid one time. Yeah, the real thing is fucking Felliniesque. There's plenty of real material there. Hell, my school built an entirely new building with the money donated from some millionaire widow who got busted cheating on the Torts final.
Dude freaks out in the Paper Chase and tries to kill himself over freaking cold calls even though grading is anonymous and all that really matters is writing a good exam. Also, what was up with the outline that created that's longer than a textbook? I dunno... my dad went to law school in the 70s and found the Paper Chase to be realistic, but it didn't really resemble my experience.
Though, I suppose there could be something to the social aspect. Sectioncest. "Bar" Reviews. Late nights in the law review suite. The rivalry between the public interest group and the business law group. The obnoxious girl who sucks up to every professor with varying success and sleeps with every guy she can because her self esteem really is that low.

I never judge a show by its pilot, but I really liked this pilot. I'll keep watching. Viola can do no wrong in my book. Well except for that shitty movie "Won't Back Down," but it was just the movie that was shitty. She was fabulous.
Meh, it was ok. It could use a little more subtledy. It seems too predictable at this point. The first post pretty much describes what is likely to happen.
