I feel like I do this every time, but help me out ladies. In the next two weeks K and I will be celebrating five years of marriage as well as her birthday. I need ideas. What to do? Buy? Where to go?
Throw 'em all out there and I'll wade through the ideas.
We believe in gifts of time/experiences...so I would consider taking her somewhere nice and getting a babysitter. If not for a weekend, at least for an interesting date. I don't know K, though, so not sure how to be more specific on that.

Wood? WOOD? We've got WOOD this year? What in the world do you do with that?
Although, I have to admit S got me a very, very sweet Mother's Day gift of a wooden jewelry box that she'd had engraved with a poem she wrote to me ("from" the kids). But that's a little girly for S and K, I suspect. ;-)
Thanks all! Maybe I should purchase the wood shelves she wants for the basement ;-)
I've always gotten K an anniversary gift that goes with the traditional theme. I would like to do it again this year, but feel no pressure to because she clearly does not notice. ;-)

You could do what we did and remodel your kitchen, then say that the new wooden cabinets were your expensive as hell gift to each other and call it even.
I'm trying to talk her into us not doing gifts and then just going away for a weekend sometime in the future.
There's gotta be a wooden magnet/ sculpture/ something that shows a place you'd like to spend a weekend away. Like, say, this wooden puzzle of the Washington Monument, which you could give to her with a note suggesting you come down here for a little vacation. Built-in free nestie babysitters included! (And a guest room, if you want it!)

Oh, I already told her about the guest room and my plan to visit! And btw, she says congratulations!
