Chik-fil-a is in my top 5 of things I miss about Louisiana. We don't have ANY here in Michigan. And, if I were still in LA, I probably wouldn't stop going over this.
......have you missed all the controversy surrounding the CEO of Chik-fil-a bashing the LGBT community and, if I'm not mistaken, admitting that he uses company money to fund anti-gay rights groups?

Yes I have missed it. I have had my head in the clouds lately. That does make him a *huge* DB

I'm giving a big fuck you to them and Sweet Frog, a froyo place in Fayetteville, because they posted on fb about their support for CFA and their actions. CFA is nasty anyway and a TCBY just opened nearby so I'm perfectly fine taking my business elsewhere. I knew SF was Christian, but I was hoping they were more...
I just don't get it, honestly. I really don't. I've never eaten there, but I guess I could compare it to In N Out, who I also love. They're a Christian owned company who don't do anything political that I know of, but if they were giving money to like, the David Duke Presidential Campaign (Hey Stan, 1992 wants its example back) or something, I would stop eating there. My parents (and thus me) boycotted Carl's Jr. when I was a kid because of their support of Operation Rescue.
It just seems so anti-establishment to eat there and flaunt it to people. Especially on these boards. Like, "Hey all you dumb boycotters on the internet. You can assuage your white/straight/liberal Christian guilt however you want, but you are now the establishment and I am too cool for you. I will enjoy being a rebel eating my waffle fries of hate and drinking my sweet tea flavored with evil." Lol.
My mother believes homosexuality is a sin. I still eat her cooking.
I don't particularly care if you partake in never eating CFA or eat it every day, but you have to see how these two examples are not equivalent, right? Unless your mom donates millions of dollars to anti-gay groups and has a public voice to denounce the gays.
(ETA Thats a large part of the reason people are boycotting- they don't want their money to go to those organizations, which, even if you don't care or agree to think their nuggets are to awesome to live without- you can still respect the fact that someone may not want their money filtered into groups that they disagree with, and if CFA is going to put it out there, its a risk they take I guess)

My mother and her church hands out anti-gay pamphlets and offers counseling for their "mental illness". I understand it's apples to oranges when comparing a singular woman to a corporation.

Well, ok. The main point I see many of the anti-boycotters saying is something like what PP said (They won't change their mind) or they have free speech, or other people/companies feel that way, or my mom feels that way (many people on the internet have said this, I'm not trying to pick on you per say). I think largely people (like I said) don't want their money going there or to the organizations that they support. Thats ok by me. Most people probably don't believe that CFA founders are going to change their positions or whatever (maybe a hope that they will, but a realistic expectation? maybe not so much).
Also, he has made his views known for YEARS. Why is this one sound bite (byte?) making such a big deal, when its been around?
Also- not to be a total bitch, but I'm sure your mom's fliers don't reach the same amount of people that CFA does... so...
LL, is your mom for real with the mental illness comment? Is she from the south?
I don't see why she has to be from the south. This is actually a pretty popular school of thought with the people where I am from. Then again, we also have a pretty large following of the KKK in our area. These schools of thought clearly aren't restricted to the south. Just saying.
ETA: Uneducated maybe but not southern by any means.

And another . I hate his opinion, but I'm boycotting because of their donations to anti-lgbt organizations. I'm boycotting SF because they support these donations, and I'm not yet positive they're not doing something similar. I'm bi, I'd rather not have any profits made off me go to something anti-lgbt.
I've known about CFAs stance and donations for a while and have boycotted them since I found out. I'm glad their donations are becoming more widely known though because a lot of my friends had no idea.
And to add to Beans' second 'also', unless you're donating to your mom's church and their resources to do such fliers and counselings, it's not the same.
I didn't mean that they could only live in the south. But where I grew up (TX and GA) there was a huge antigay/racist presence. DH is from the north and he could instantly sense it in GA. I know it happened everywhere though. I just feel it happens more in some places.
I use the same rational with CFA as I do my mother (who was born in GA but was an Army brat). She did not become religious until her mid-thirties. Her being born in the south has nothing to do with her views on homosexuality. It's the religion she follow.
My mother has these views and I do not discuss them with her. Perhaps if I was gay it would be a bigger issue in our relationship. I cannot change her views on this matter. When I go to a CFA restaurant, I am not bombarded with anti-gay material. It does not affect the taste of my meal and I cannot change the CEO's views. That's why I made the comparison in the first place. I use the same reasoning skills I do with my mom.
I love CFA. I'm really disappointed in their views, but I won't boycott.
See, In & Out is pretty religious. They have Bible verses (just the book, chapter, verse, mot the actual text) on all their paper products. But they don't get all public and political about it. And I'm always offended by the idea that we should be shocked by Christians who hate. I am. And my dad never misses church. He's not a fast food joint, but he wouldn't teach a college class on Sundays. I would be shocked if he came out against equality. Taking one's Christian faith seriously does not mean being an anti equality social conservative, and it bothers me when people act like it's a given.
That is true. I shouldn't generalize. I am a Christian and I don't share their views.

and less...
Shame, their pink lemonade froyo is delicious.
Hadn't heard this about Sweet Frog. I'm with you, there's so many froyo places popping up. I prefer my froyo with a topping of equality.
