My company is over a thousand people in offices across the country. HR sent out an email to all personnel this morning about it being breast cancer awareness month, with a reminder that employees have 2 hours paid each year to get a mammogram.
A female employee replied to the entire company with a calendar invite (meant for her own calendar? For her supervisor to approve? IDK) to leave 2 hours early this Friday for her own mammogram.
Since it was a calendar invite it couldn't be recalled. Her supervisor cancelled the appt but everyone had to click "remove from calendar" to get it out of their inbox. :/
Our sales director just sent out a bunch of pictures from a dinner our company hosted in London last week. 158 of them. He didn't look through them or edit them (annoying) and in one of them he is talking to another women and his wife is totally giving the stink-eye. LOL.
Yeah, I would be horrified in her position. I don't want my coworkers thinking about my boobs... even medically.
We had a notice go out this morning about WiFi now being available in the office building gym and an employee replied all "AWESOME!!!" I guess she was excited about the WiFi, but not all 700 people in the office needed to know that, LOL. It has been pretty tame if that's the only thing I have.
I was texting with another agent re: inspections on a house.
Me: Okay, I will contact (contractor) to do the septic inspection on Monday.
Other agent: You wanna get nasty?
Other agent: You know you want to!
Other agent: OMG I AM SO SORRY I THOUGHT I WAS TEXTING MY BOYFRIEND I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED IN MY LIFE. Those are words from a song! Those are not my words! (Yes, we all know Blurred Lines.)
To make it even better, I had met her when I dropped the earnest money check off and she was pushing 50 and very...matronly. (This actually happened last summer, LOL, but PP reminded me of it when she said her reply-all was pretty tame.)
I'm a waitress and a few nights ago two Hispanics came in that spoke no English. I took a few years of Spanish and can usually get by no problem.
I accidentally asked them if they were gay when I was trying to ask them if they would be together on the same check or separate.
We were all confused for a bit and then I realized I had said the wrong word. I apologized profusely and then found a Hispanic to relay how truly sorry I was. They laughed about it, but I felt terrible.

sjh722 - OMG. OMG. I feel so awkward right now I can't breathe. OMG.
I felt really bad for her, but then she kept making it worse. Every time I talked to her for the next 2 weeks, she would throw in "And I am SO SORRY for my risque text message!" or "I don't normally put things like that in writing, you know? The song is just so popular, and so catchy!"
I have never been so thankful that a deal fell through and I did not have to sit through a closing with her in my whole entire career.
dottyblue - I didn't even tell my CWers I was getting a reduction. I just took PTO for a week and came back...different. We have never spoken of it since.

At my job before I married H, my coworker took a couple of weeks off to have her boobs done. When she came back to the office, she made us all FEEL THEM. :/

I kept trying to say "together" and "same" in reference to the check. I just chose the wrong words. They understood, but when they started laughing I realized that it might come across differently in Spanish.

I'd have to think referring to Spanish speaking people as "Hispanics" may be a blunder in of itself.

I am on a conference call with many people in different locations. Someone on the call must have taken their phone into the bathroom because we all heard a flushing sound. Awkward!

Yeah. Not what I'm side-eyeing you for.
Do you use the word Oriental too? To refer to people?

Okay whoa. I have worked at a Mexican restaurant for 7 years and have always been told by my Spanish-speaking friends that they are to be referred to as Hispanics. If this is not correct then I have 100% been schooled incorrectly.

My old boss (at a medical office, not, like, McDonald's) passed around pictures from her Mexico vacation that included topless shots. But FEELING them? You win.

Well yeah. But the word is an adjective. Hispanic people.
Making it a noun makes it sound super racist.
ETA: I'm not calling you a racist. I just think the way you're using that word is coming off unintentionally racist.

Yeeeaaaaah, we work for the same company. Seriously.

Oh my. I'm so sorry if I offended anyone. Well then. I feel like an even bigger ass.
