I ended up being induced on 9/29, due to low amniotic fluid. Oliver Thomas was born on 9/30, at 12:47 pm. He was 6 pounds, 5 oz and 18.5 inches long. I had an easy delivery and only pushed 3 times!
Unfortunately, he is in the NICU. He initially needed some respiratory support, but is now completely off oxygen! He is still in the NICU because he is having trouble feeding. This is common in babies with Down syndrome, because they have less muscle tone and thicker tongues. He actually took a little from a bottle this morning, but he is mostly being fed through a feeding tube.
The only other bad news is that it was confirmed that he has a heart defect and will need to have open heart surgery this spring to fix the defect.
The fact that he is in the NICU sucks and the need for heart surgery sucks, but overall, he is perfect and we couldn't be more in love.
I was just stalking you a few hours ago to see how you were doing, lol, what a great surprise to see this post! I hope his nicu stay is short and surgery goes well!
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
Congratulations, definitelynotkara! He's gorgeous. I hope everyone is home now?
Thanks! He is still in the NICU, but he did super well w/ his feedings yesterday and got his feeding tube out. If he keeps it up, he will be able to come home in a few days!
He is doing fantastic! He finally got the hang of feeding and was able to come home on Tuesday w/o a feeding tube. Yay! He still may need one later (as he gets bigger, his heart will have to work harder and he may not be able to eat as much as he needs w/o tiring), but for now he is eating well.
We are still trying to get the hang of changing boy diapers. He thinks it is the most fun thing ever to wait until you change his diaper to poop. And he has a knack for peeing on the wall. Lol. Good thing he is cute!
ETA: Oh, and I am doing good. I was having a really hard time dealing w/ everything, but now that he is home, I have been feeling much better!
