Hi! I have never posted here but I'm hoping someone night have an idea for me. Our almost ten yo dog just started chewing the door frame last week:( She was rescued but is perhaps some mix of petite basset griffon bend even. We took her to the vet but they didn't find a physical ailment. She did it last week and we thought perhaps she was scared of thunder. H replaced the trim Sunday, she was home alone all day yesterday with no issues, but alone for two hours today and started chewing it. Any thoughts? She never had any anxiety like this when our 5 and 2 yo were born and had never done anything like this as a puppy/young dog. She is walked daily and often 2 X a day. Thanks!!!!

Have you ever used Bitter Apple spray? Check if you can spray it onto your trim (it smells like alcohol so I'm not sure if it's good for paint / varnish). That is a good deterrent for some chewing.
Barring that, can you gate her out of that area for a while until you're certain she won't continue the behavior?

I will look into the spray, and can't hate but can lean done kid chairs by the door. Thanks!!!

Our dobie has started destructive chewing in his old age - it SUCKS! We are fairly sure it is due to lack of stimulation, as he is older is his less able to release his energy through running/play time so he gets bored. We have upped our mental stimulation with him through games and mental activities and that has seemed to help!
