Our dog itches alot, and vet said seasonal allergies. I don't know how she made that determination - I guess because of our climate. We now bathe her once every 7-10 days with oatmeal shampoo to remove any allergens.
Have you tried bathing with him with an aloe or oatmeal shampoo, or maybe something for sensitive skin?

Oatmeal shampoo will exacerbate a grain allergy. This time of year it usually is allergies if it isn't fleas. Only way to be 100% is to do allergy testing. There is an excellent FAQ on the old board about allergies that has helped us a lot.

My vet said it if it enviromental allergies it will be certain times of the year and the dog will itch specific places (usually their bellies and "armpits" and they will lick their paws).
Even if you didn't switch foods, is it possible that the formula changed? Or did you start giving different treats?

Our Boston Terrier gets very itchy this time of year also. Our vet said that it's allergies. We bathe her more often and wipe down her belly when she comes inside with a baby wipe (huggies natural).

My dog has the same problems with allergies (non-food related). My vet suggested Benadryl, but I didn't notice much of a difference. I started giving my dog 2 fish oil pills with her food each morning and it has really helped - also she loves them. I started out buying a somewhat pricy dog type version from the pet store, but when that ran out I have just been giving her the kind people take. It helps make her skin and coat better. I've noticed a lot less scratching.
