I posted this on the MoMs board but didn't know if anyone here can help.
I had my twins Saturday at 33 weeks - vaginal birth. I feel worse now then I did while I was in the hospital. They're in the nicu and I KNOW I'm not getting my water in. I'm trying though. But my back is killing me. Not a sharp pain but just hurts and my abdomen hurts. Sometimes I also have a quick shortness of breath. I assume this is all normal? Taking motrin every 8 hours but I just feel uncomfortable. How long did it take you to feel somewhat normal? I'm trying to also not stand as much while in the nicu since I'm sure that isn't helping. Is this just my organs finding their way home?
I would also call your OB (do they have an after hours nurse?). There's a fine line between normal recovery from birth and complications after birth. Waiting to see which it is isn't a risk I'd be willing to take. Never hesitate to call your doc if you have questions like this!
To answer your question, it took me about 2 weeks with DS1 to feel somewhat normal. He was 10+ lbs and recovery was slow. But I never had significant back or abdomen pain that I recall, and certainly no shortness of breath.
I dont have trouble breathing so maybe shortness is a bad term.
I asked a twin mom I know and what I described is how she felt after so I'm assuming mormal. I do have another rx but they said it causes constipation and I'm still waiting to go -that might be part of my issue too.
I didn't have twins. I did have a Csection so I don't know if it was related to that but I had what I would call shortness of breath too for a little while. Sort of like you can't take deep breath or have to think about it to do it.. Hard to explain. It went away after a couple weeks.
For your back and abdomen, are you wearing a support thing? Like the belly bandit but they have cheaper versions too..
Congrats! The shortness of breath concerns me...definitely mention that. Has your bp been ok? I had a c section but I know my ob said I might bleed more because of having three babies in there.

Call your OB as soon as you can. Shortness of breath can be nothing or something serious (BP issues, post-partum heart issues, which are rare but very serious, etc.). After my twin birth, I was short of breath walking upstairs but felt a million times better than when I was pregnant and couldn't breathe b/c of all the weight on my chest, abdomnen b/c of the babies.

You are the only person I have met/heard of to have a vaginal twins birth so I really have no idea of normal but everything you described sounds worthy of checking in with a doctor
