I'd get him back in ABA yesterday, a skilled BCBA will be able to help you help him get this under control. The up tick may be tummy trouble related, when DD gets a stomach bug or constipated we see an uptick in negative behaviors 98% of the time once the issue resolves the behavior goes away and all is well again. My assumption is that it's just one thing too many for her to process so she has reduced bandwith for behaving. We still address it with ABA but usually it corrects once she is feeling better.
I feel like with my son he moves from one behavior to another. For a few months it's nail biting, for a few months it is another thing ie hitting. Bad behaviors at our house get a social story. We now have a big binder of stories for situations that either upset him or explaining why he can't bite, hit etc. We don't do any time out, because it doesn't work, we just sit down and go over the social story at the time of the incident, but also daily or every other day to keep it fresh in his mind.
If you PM your email, I can send you a copy of what our therapist created for my son for "Nice hands" to give you an idea. it is mostly ASD pictures and some of our family's pictures mixed in.
Oh and I've created social stories myself. It's mostly done in Microsoft word.
You might want to check your state's options in regards to ABA. We have a Medicaid waiver which pays for the 1-on-1 therapist at home and the ABA autism school is about 2/3's paid through our private insurance which is under VA's mandate (but companies can opt out too). We don't have public ABA based schools here in my city.

Thank you for responding. Do you get ABA through the school district?
Unfortunately No. We are OOP for ABA, we are fortunate that we have very supportive Grandparents who help us with the cost.
Specific to self harm, a lot of people make rules around hurting people that include the child. Weird as it seems, it's usually pretty effective for brighter kids.
