the cat is bad. the others are ok? I wouldn't have my daughter wearing them though
Really? Shouldn't a girl that wants to be a police officer or a whatever-the-fuck that miliary atrocity "Major Flirt" is... dress in something from Melissa and Doug rather than a sexed up minidress?
I am not looking forward to the day mom says no to that shit. I wish it didn't exist. Adults are free to slut it up for Halloween, but I shouldn't have to deal with it in the girls/toddler section.
This makes me really sad. I don't think I ever had a store bought costume as a kid so I'm assuming they haven't always been like this. But, why as a parent would you every buy one of these?

No, that is NOT a cop outfit! It's a porn industry version of one for little girls!
Yeah. The handcuffs?!?! Was this created by a couple middle-aged men child molesters in a basement?!? I'm disgusted that there are parents who will dress their little girls in this & think they look cute
Yeah that's ridiculous. And part of the reason that I do Halloween costumes based mostly on what's already in the toybox...because it's already Mom approved.
I think my Mom and that tradition was onto something for this very reason.
Those are bad. Really bad and I have no issues with 2 piece swimsuits, spaghetti straps on baby dresses and whatever else stuff people get worked about in kid fashion.

Real female police officers wear the same uniforms as male police officers. But police officer costumes for little girls just have to be different, or else they'll just look like boys and we can't have that! *headdesk*

And ditto for military uniforms, etc.
That's not entirely true - I think the Marine dress uniform has options with skirts that are only for women. Unless they did away with those?
However, this is obviously not that.
I believe each branch of the military still has a skirted uniform for women, but only dress blues, not anything involving camo. I'm also fairly certain it is optional and you can choose between pants and skirts, but I could be wrong. Plain skirts that fall below the knee with regular shoes. I've seen actual uniform look-alikes and they're adorable.
These mini skirts and knee high boots make me want to cry.
My goddaughter had that exact cat when she came to tot with us a few years ago (prob age 5) . I threw away the bell and made her wear one of my long sleeved shirts under it.
Not really related, but I'm getting tired of all the "girl" versions of costumes. A friend posted her kids are both being minions for Halloween. The boy had the normal minion costume and the girls' was normal on top with a huge tutu on bottom. I've seen the same thing with other costumes and it's just silly to me.
That may have been the girl's preference though. DD is alllllllllll about tutus and such these days. I can totally see her modifying a costume with something like that just because she likes it.
"It’s also worth noting that if a young boy wants to dress up as a firefighter, it doesn’t include a skimpy costume that leaves him bare-chested with only suspenders. We don’t dress our young boys like quasi-strippers and give their firefighter costume names like Hot Stuff, so why do we do this for our young girls?"
When TTC H and I always use to say we didn't want to have a girl. Not for any other reason other than this issue right here. I tire myself out thinking of the uphill battle we have before us to try and raise her with self respect.
Guess I'm breezy here (though the names are lame) but they don't really bother me. My older 3 all had healed knee high boots with their girl version of superhero costumes last year. They will not wear masculine or gender neutral outfits at all. Their outfits are vampire (girl version), archer (girl version & very short) & cleopatra this year. I'm a huge prude (I was a virgin until my 20s & have zero tolerance for porn) but this stuff doesn't really bother me.

I agree this is awful, I was just commenting on the fact that sometimes there is a different costume for girls. I don't want to go too far and act like they must always dress alike because "equality!!111!
Oh I know - I was just trying to provide backup to your viewpoint ITA with you.

Costumes don't need to be unisex to not be porny.
Perhaps you should watch a bit of porn so you can recognize it?

It doesn't bother you at all that they have to have not just girl versions, but sexy versions? Is an archer any less of an archer with a knee-length skirt than a mini skirt? That's what I find troubling about it. We're not just talking boys vs girls. We're talking normal vs. sexual.

Ha! Maybe so! The 2 archer outfits we found both were short. Everyone loved my girls outfits last year...I saw no pearl clutching. For actual T OT Ting, they wear leggings & by dark coats because it's CO & can be chilly at Halloween...

Cute, but Batgirl would be wearing pants if she was my kid.
I'm not worried about pearl clutching. I'm worried that costume is sexier than my version was that I wore in my 20s.
2) I distinctly remember in fifth grade (circa 1989) that it was all the rage to dress as a French maid. The stores in my neighborhood totally sold a little girl version of the slutty adult French maid costume, fishnets and all. So maybe things aren't so different these days?
