My 4 year old DS has recently been diagnosed with SPD. I'm a former SPED teacher, so I'm not surprised by the diagnosis, more just out of my realm being on the other side. DS is also gifted, so adding that in top of the SPD has been a battle. He's extremely auditory sensitive as well as very pressure reliant. He is just starting to ask for hugs or squeezes when he needs help. We will be starting OT in the next few weeks. Does anyone have any great resources? I feel like I should know what to do, but it's really different being the parent thanks in advance.

The out of sync child is a great book. My son is also gifted and SPD. We are doing OT with Masgutova Method and he goes to a Montessori school which has been amazing for him.
There is a yahoo group called children with challenges which has a lot of good information. I also took some parenting classes to help my skills when he started on a tantrum.
Big hugs. We are in a much better place a year later. My son is very auditory sensitive as well. He also had some challenges with his eye muscles, but once those resolved his reading took off. Good luck!
