I am side eyeing all the pro-lifers in here. Next step: shaming the woman for selfishly keeping a baby she doesn't want and can't afford instead of giving it up for adoption. Jesus. Evaluate yourselves.
Of course we don't know the whole story, but it would have been better if the lady did change her mind about aborting the baby, that she would of looked into adoption instead of trying to raise it herself.
Really? This is what you got out of this whole post?
This is horrifying. They've guilted this poor woman into going through with a pregnancy she didn't want so she can have a child that she isn't in a position to be able to support, but it's all ok because they're throwing her a baby shower? Where will these people be when she's trying to arrange childcare so she can go to work, or pay for health insurance for this baby?
And of course, the same type of people who are all over the pro-life crap are also the ones that don't want to fund the social services that this woman will now need.
Sorry my fingers got ahead of me, I didn't mean that, I meant since she decided not to abort.
It's not the grammar I'm side eyeing. Fyi.
How the hell do you know what would have been better? How the hell do the women throwing this fucked up shower? How do any of us? WE DON'T. So people should've left that woman alone to make her own decisions.

Putting the best interests of the child is what should be the most important decision that woman makes. Yes it may be hard, but not everything in life is going to be easy. She needs to not think of herself but of the baby since she has decided to keep it. Those ladies giving her a shower isn't going to help her raise this child for the next 18 years.

You are right, she should think of her child first and give it to a richer family. What a selfish cunt.

This is fucking horrific. Her personal life and VERY personal decision are now basically part of a campaign for a cause, and she's been guilted into a life she didn't want. Costs don't stop after a baby shower. I hope so badly that she has support through the entirety of that child's life.
Of course we don't know the whole story, but it would have been better if the lady did change her mind about aborting the baby, that she would of looked into adoption instead of trying to raise it herself.
Edited: I meant to say - since she changed her mind about aborting that she should of looked into adoption.

LAWD JESUS!!! Tell the truth, you are just bored right?
I know someone personally who was considering abortion but was guilted into keeping their baby by a pro lifer. It has not turned out to be a good situation for anyone involved. Including the pro lifer that did the convincing. This kind of stuff makes me so mad.
And of course, the same type of people who are all over the pro-life crap are also the ones that don't want to fund the social services that this woman will now need.
This really isn't the case with anywhere near every pro-lifer.

The fuckery of your statement aside, for the love of god it's should have or should've, could have or could've.
And as soon as this baby is born, she will be judged by these very same women for having a child she can't afford.
see above. Littlemermaid is halfway to church biddy!
Halfway? Don't be so tentative.
She's all the way there. It's like if church biddy uterus meddling nonsense was a farm. Maybe throwing a pro-life shower is one silo and telling someone that "you know it's hard" but you should totes mcgotes just give away your child to some people who have more money is another silo.
I can say with 1,000,000% certainty that if I ever was staring down the barrel of an unwanted pregnancy, adoption would NOT be an option for me.
Sorrynotsorry, I just wouldn't be able to cope with carrying a baby inside of me for 9 months and then "just giving it up" and being able to go about my life after that. It's great that other people can do it, but I know me well enough to know an abortion would do way less emotional damage to me in the long run.

I agree with you. I respect the Catholic church for being consistent on the issue of life, and their support for necessary social services.
However, a very large percentage of the anti-choice crowd not only opposes abortion, but also opposes sex education, birth control, and social services for the child after he/she is born. They oppose a living wage that would allow people to raise children out of poverty, and they oppose paid maternity leave. They oppose child care assistance. Their concern for the health of the baby seems to stop the moment of birth.
To me, it seems that they are in favor of punishing women for having sex, rather than protecting children.

Everything about this is so sad. I hope everything works out for the mother and her child in this situation, since she has made the decision to not abort. I can't imagine being faced with that decision and ultimately being guilted into my "choice."

I didn't mean to imply that all pro-lifers are against social services, just that the type that are into the sort of in your face shaming demonstrated by OP's neighbor's church very often don't support funding them. Though at least in my experience, it is a larger segment of pro-lifers that also tend to be more conservative socially and want to reduce social services than the nubmer of pro-choicers that do.

That's disgusting. Truly disgusting. Are they offering her a job? Free child care service? Rent? WTF is wrong with these people. None of these prolifers think beyond saving the fetus.

There is a woman at our church like this. She works at one of those ultrasound places that shows unsure pregnant women how their baby has a heartbeat and fingernails and whatever. It is not affiliated with our church, which is why it's still our church. It makes me sick. I hope that poor woman has the support she needs well after the diaper cakes are intact.
