I am not sure, I've never been to that type of salon before. This is why I think tipping is such an awkward thing, I wish everything was just built into the price.

I remember my mom used to have me give $1 when she took me as a kid and she was always a cheap tipper so even though I thought $2 or $3 would be okay I did $5
At my moms salon the stylists tip the wash girls. There is an envelope in the back room and everyone gives $25/wk. If you're friendly enough with your stylist I'd ask her.
I would give $2 if color wasn't involved, but since it was cut and color, I'd give $4 or $5.
I'm confused, what does color have to do with anything? the wash girl simply washes my hair before I get into the chair. She doesn't color anything.
If there is color to wash out or foils to take out to wash, it's more labor intensive. It usually requires a few shampoos and cleaning up any dye on the hairline after the wash.
Yep, you should definitely tip the assistant/washer separately. I usually do $3, or more if they do a really good wash with a head massage and all that At my old "fancy" salon If he was busy my stylist would have the assistant do my blow out and then I would tip more (and usually cut back on the stylist's tip a little bc it literally would take 10 minutes for the cut and 45 to blow out). I always bring cash for the assistant and add tip for my stylist to the credit card.
$5 if they're washing out color, $3 if they're just washing for a cut. It takes so much longer to wash out color, they could've been doing 2 people in that amount of time.
The place I usually go the stylist washes my hair but I assume it is like a restaurant. You don't tip the hostess/bus person/ food runner. You tip your server and they tip the others the appropriate amount. Is it not like that in salons because I assume the stylist would tip them out.
