I am seeing all over my Facebook people talking about how amazing they feel after doing some sort of mysterious cleanse. Some are just a couple days in. If I didn't have any food I would be a cranky mess. This is a lie right?
Could it be the 10 day cleanse that is part of the 24 day challenge through Advocare? You do still eat on this but you drink a fiber drink and talk herbal cleanse/probiotic pills during the process as well.
Yes. Did you see Fat Sick and Nearly Dead? Even that guy who is crazy about juicing talked about how shitty and tired and ragey people feel for the first week. Like need to take off from work because they can't function normally.
This summer had a stomach bug and did feel glorious afterwards. i suspect relief from the torture of a cleanse is why these people feel good.
Some people use the word cleanse to describe a whole 30 type program where you eat really well (lots of veggies, no dairy, no processed carbs, no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol) for a period of time. I think those things are fine, I just wish they would pick a different word. It's really just a jump start to some healthier eating habits.
Any cleanse that withholds actual food or tells you that your body is getting rid of "toxins" is dumb.
You don't need to cleanse. Your organs do that for you. So basically yeah, these people are just getting sick and when people are sick, they're cranky jerks.
I think a lot of the 'OMG I feel so amazing!' is just the placebo effect increased by needing to believe that it worked because it "works" for everyone else. Also what @kcpokergal said about feeling good after it's done because you can stop feeling shitty for a week. (I'm specifically talking about the cleanses I see people talking about on FB filled with tons of "vitamins" and juice, not something like whole 30).
I kind of think the only people who feel awesome on a cleanse are those who don't properly nourish and hydrate their body anyways, so their body is "yay, vegetables! Water! Vitamins and minerals! All the stuff I never had when you stuffed me with McDonald's and Mountain Dew everyday!"
My friend did a juice cleanse and spent the whole time on the pot. No thank you.
I watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and did the juicing thing for a week (modified... I ate a salad for dinner) because that's all I could handle. A week. Hangry doesn't even begin to describe it... And yes, I about had to move my work desk to the bathroom. LOL

Some of the followers of that diet live on juice for 30 days at a time! I always wondered how that worked out for their bowel system.
I was on clear liquids for a week some years ago, nope. I need solid food.

Yeah I was all inspired after seeing the movie and I was prepared to go all in, bought me the breville juicer, packed my fridge with kale, etc. I made it to dinner the first day before saying "god there's no way in h*ll I am going to make it without killing someone. I need protein damn it!"

I did a 3 day juice cleanse last year. The first half of the day was fine, but by dinner I wanted to chew some real food, dammit! I'd only do it again if I did juice during the day and a nice big salad for dinner.

</div>Trust - I totally agree. But at least it's safe, not like the lemon/cayenne crap.

One of the ladies I work with cut out everything except for protein for a week on her "cleanse." She spent that week eating hard boiled eggs and beef jerky. If you walked by her with real food she looked really sad. This week she added back in veggies on alternating days. Next week she gets to add back in carbs every third day or something.
A lot of people on mine are doing one. I think they're referring to Isagenix. Ugh.
What is this stuff?
A woman I work with is doing it and she tries to get people to join her on it ALL. THE. TIME.
What amazes me is that she started this about 6 months after winning free personal training for a year. I want to tell her that if her trainer is encouraging this she needs to get a new one once her year is up. I know nothing about the "program" but have never seen one that was a good idea (excluding Whole 30 and even then I have questions).

That movie was basically an extended infomercial. Also, I feel like if you are going to consume that much vegetable matter, it damn well better be organic, and if it is, you're going to be broke as shit. I'm not 100% organic all the time, but seriously, many heads of kale a day + whatever else you are eating= a lot of pesticide exposure, I'm guessing. Also, what the eff is the point? You get your required vitamins and then piss the rest out - and get no fiber in the process. I fail to see how juicing is really good for anyone.

I do not understand this process.
I can only imagine how fucked her digestive system was that first week.

This starts with a D but can't remember the name. It's the diet of choice for princess Katherine

I was on clear liquids for a week one time, too! I believe it was the 1st week of June 2002. I had contracted E. coli and I could not eat any foods. For. A. Week. Chicken nachos had been cross contaminated from raw meat. It was so bad. I had to get 2 bags of potassium and 1 bag of fluids at the E.R.
I remember finally eating a burger again on the 4th of July. It was manna.
Cleanses are not wise or healthy! I would not do it.
