Oh FFS: Looks like I'm not the only one thinking the opening ceremony was a bunch of bunk praising socialized medicine. Dancing nurses & doctors? Wonder how much BO paid them for that act?
Wow. So they're unaware that pretty much the rest of the civilized world is proud that they don't let their citizens suffer and/or die for lack of health care? I'm guessing this person relied heavily on Matt and Meredith's commentary during the show.
Although, with Matt Lauer's and what's-her-name's commentary they could have done a much better job explaining how the children's healthcare system they are very proud of in Britain related to the child literature they then phased into.
So many people got their panties in a wad about the union workers and socialized medicine. Like neither of those examples was significant for Britain or the rest of the world. 8-D

I don't see praise of "socialized medicine" at all when I see the opening ceremony. It was a bunch of kids in pajamas. Having nightmares. In hospital beds. If anything, it was anti-hospital. If those kids had been sleeping in their own beds that their parents had put together using bootstraps and elbow grease, Voldemort never would've showed up.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
One of my college friends who is very politically involved and very liberal put it well on FB:
I missed the tribute to NHS at the Opening Ceremonies, but apparently American conservatives were aghast to learn that the United Kingdom is tremendously proud of its wildly popular government-run health care. Good for you, London. As I've said many times, the whole argument against universal health care in the United States is dependent on pretending that all other advanced nations don't exist.
We tuned in halfway through and were thoroughly confused by the kids in their beds and the big, scary dude hovering over them. We thought it was some kind of weird Pink Floyd reference. LOL. It amuses me to no end that those uptight assbags are in a huff over this. When are they ever not in a huff over something?

They were actually praising one of the top hospitals for young children with major diseases (many dying of or suffering from cancer) - Great Ormond Street as well as the NHS, which is why there were children facing scary monsters. It had nothing to do with the States...lol.

Our biggest flaw as a country is that we think every single thing is about us, like we are the sun that other countries revolve around. We're like teenagers. And, as in this case, our media is very much to blame for this. It skews everything and makes it all America-centric and then we end up ignorant of all the other things going on in the world.

I wish people would stop regurgitating Limbaugh's talking points on their FB walls.

Oy vey. Sorry to be a bucket of cold water but it really isn't all about America. Hell, during the first Olympics, no one even knew this continent existed. (Now I have to go research to make sure my claim is correct).

And the Great Ormond Street Hospital was founded/funded by J.M. Barrie, hence to reference to villains in children's stories, like Captain Hook.
