My neighbor surrendered a little maltese to me. I noticed after he was groomed that he only has 1 testicle back there. She found him last year as a stray and sais he is a few years old according to the vet. I sent her a text and told her but she has not responded. When I took him to the groomer they said he had only been groomed 1 time by them and that his rabies vaccination expires next year. I asked if they had a vet listed for him but they do not. I was hoping to call them to see if they had any info for him. I have never had a male dog so this is new to me. I am going to call my vet monday for an appointment. I am worried about him being so small. I weighed him and he is only 6lbs. Maybe that is normal for a dog of his breed. I am use to my 70lb girls Has anyone had a dog with this and what did you have done?
Your dog should be neutered as soon as you can. It sounds like he has an undescended testicle. An undescended testicle can lead to health complications, including a higher risk for cancer. He also may still be fertile even if he only has one descended testicle. As for his size, I have no idea what the appropriate weight for his breed would be.
Our friends have a dog that had only one testicle. The story I heard (he's getting old now, and I wasn't there early on) is that they took him to get him neutered, and they only found one. I believe he is a spitz mix, so not sure about how it may or may not have affected things for him. He has been doing just fine though
