How much did you pay? And what did you get for that? And if you happen to live in the Chicago area, please feel free to share who you used!
I am pinning some newborn photography ideas (yes, I know I have plenty of time!), and I start looking up prices of local photographers and practically keeled over. I may skip a traditional newborn shoot and just book a family mini shoot instead.

Our announcement pics were from the ones they took at the hospital. Almost all out other family photos have been done by Mia at Mia Ink out of lindenhurst. She has beautiful grounds at her house, covered bridge, water wheel, fields, plus a full studio. She's on Facebook or at www.miaink.com.
Not sure what she charges for newborn sessions. I think we pay around $150ish for other sessions which include edited photo cd and copyright release.
Unlimited time with the photographer, CD of images (prob had 30 I liked)
It would have been $300 had I not asked for a deal; ended up paying $300 total for newborn and maternity.
I found her through the local photography school. Great school, recent grad. She was excited for the experience, and I felt like I got an amazing deal.
I'm in the Chicago area. We haven't done ours yet (baby is due in January), but we went with a package of $950 for newborn, 6 month, and 1 year, including digital high res images with rights for each session. Here's the photographer's website -- www.abbyevansphotography.com
We paid $100 for the sitting fee and $1500 for some prints(super nice, not just paper), an album of all of them, some mini albums and all the pics in a thumb drive. It was definitely a splurge. I love our pics though.
$250 or 300. It included 3ish hours of shooting at our house, 20 edited digital images of our choice with printing rights on a flash drive, and an 11x14 portrait on canvas. The photographer also brought props and backdrops.

$300 for a 1-hour session and all images on a disc. We used the same photographer for DS1 and DS2, and have used her for a couple family portrait sessions as well. I've always been very satisfied with her work. Similar photographers in our area of SoCal charge $400-600 for the same services.
We got a package through our photographer that was $1000 for 6 photo shoots: maternity, newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 12 month. So we paid $200 a session and the last one was free. We got a CD with all the digital pictures and printing rights.
We paid $300 for our newborn session. It includes 20 images with copyright release. We also added on a 6 month session for the babe and 1 year session with H and I, those are about $190 each since it's a package deal.

I paid $200 for 2 hours and a disc with all the images.
The first photographer I found was $450 plus minimum purchase of $350 and no disc, only prints. She told mw the average spend is $1600. I then looked on CL and found my girl.
It's worth shopping around and trying to find someone who is trying to start their business.
I believe I paid around $500 for a session at our home with unlimited photos and a mpix print credit (to use on anything at the site).
For me, the one thing I wanted was someone who did in home. I knew my anxiety about being a FTM plus BFing would be too much to try and do in a studio. Also I wanted some photos in the nursery and some with the dog.
I actually just did a FB blast asking for recs. There's a local photog everyone loves, but she wanted $1k for a studio newborn shoot. And given what I received after a mini-shoot w/her, she's not worth $1k.

Ours was $250 for a lifestyle type session at our house (no funny props or weird positions). He was with us for about 6 hours and it included a CD with about 100 or so images. No prints.
We just did 6 month photos with the same photographer for $150, about 2 hours of outdoor photography and CD with images.
I'm jealous of some of the low prices people have gotten on these!
I live in the suburbs of Boston and will be paying $450 for a lifestyle type session at our home. It will include the session fee and USB drive with all the images and printing rights. There was no extra charge for twins vs. 1 baby
This was one of the better prices I could find, all the others were insanely expensive and didn't include a disc or printing rights for the pics.
We went through the photography studio that had a partnership with the hospital where I delivered. I think the session was $100, and the cd of images was an additional $150. She did a great job. DD was screaming and crying the entire time, but you would never know it from the pics.

I tried this when C was born. It was an epic disaster. H had a meltdown and the baby was just not into it that day. By the time our hour was up we got 1 semi decent photo of C.
We rescheduled a full newborn session a few days later with a different photographer. C was still not into it, but we got some great photos because the photographer scheduled up to 3 hours with us. The photos we loved were taken at the 2 1/2 hour mark.
For H's photos we paid about $500. We had so many great shots I bought more prints than I originally planned. I only bought one digital image for our Christmas card because the prices were crazy high.
For C we spent $400. We had a different photographer than we used for H. The $400 covered the 3 hour session and all of the digital images. I printed at Costco and got the upgraded printing, they turned out great.
our hospital had a company that came into the room and did a session for free if you wanted it. The pictures were good. Not as cute as they would have been at home, but still very nice, albeit a little standard in terms of poses/setups/etc. They wanted insane high prices on the prints/digitals, so we didn't buy any prints or digitals. Eventually though, they sent us a crazy deal around her first birthday where we got the whole CD of edited, digital images for $50. We took them up on that
Whereabouts in Chicago are you? I have someone I like in the northern suburbs. She is $400 for 3-4 hours in her home studio with 25-30 edited photos, all the rights. PM me if you want more details.
