Without naming names, the child on the lower bunk has swiss cheesed the bottom of the top bunk mattress with fist sized holes. I can now see the coils inside the top mattress. The mattress is 2 years old and in great condition, except for the now ragged bottom.
I would like to repair or cover the bottom (with something non pokable - my new made up word) but am not sure how to go about it. Any ideas?
What holds the top bunk mattress in place? If it wouldn't make the mattress too firm, you could try a 1/4 think piece of plywood cut to size. You can cover the plywood with fabric to make it prettier.
Yup--hlke suggested exactly what I would have. Even just paint the plywood. I had a piece of plywood under my twin bed growing up and it never bothered me.
Plywood will work but for a quick fix... burlap. Staple it right on up there. You can even make it extra stiff with starch. Actually, most fabrics stiffened with starch will work. Maybe pick a pattern the puncher will enjoy looking at?
