Hi Ladies! I did an intro around this time last year when I was pregnant for the second time. We ended up losing that pregnancy as well. But, I'm back and 33w2d pregnant with our little boy! He is due on Dec 13th and both DH and I couldn't feel more blessed or excited for our little Christmas miracle!
Question...how many newborn sized clothes are really necessary? I only have 4 right now (2 sleep and plays and 2 outfits) so I know we need more but would like some suggestions/opinions as to how much we actually need. I have plenty of 0-3 month size but know they will likely be too big the first couple weeks/months. I'm also a little worried about having enough cold weather clothes for him (although I live in So Cal we can get snow up to 3x per winter and it drops into the high 20s/low 30s as a low for a decent part of the winter). TIA!
Congratulations! If you have lots of 0-3 month size, I think you are good on clothes. I waited until toward the end when I knew how big the baby would likely be. If the baby is going to be around 8lbs or more, newborn clothes will only fit for a very short time, if they fit at all. If the baby is on the smaller side, you may need a few more newborn things.
I had the opposite problem with my kids, as they were both born during the summer. I struggled with how to keep them cool when outside and warm when inside (due to the AC).

Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome back! Do you have a name picked out for your little one?
I would probably buy a pack of onesies, a couple pair of pants and not wash/remove tags from anything until your DS is here in case he is too big for NB sized clothes. It's hard to predict how long they will wear them, if at all (DD never did because she has a long torso). Shipping these days is super fast and we got a lot of clothes when she was born from visitors.
Any estimate on how big he might be? My DS was 8lb 14oz and some newborn was too small when he was born or only lasted a week or two. I think you're probably fine for newborn size, as long as you have 0-3 month stuff.

Thank you! Yes, his name is Cameron Lloyd (middle name after DH, who was named after his grandpa).

Hi! No estimate on size yet. I'm going to ask at my next appt but not sure when my OB does a growth scan (right now all she's doing in fundal height measurements and listening to the heart beat).
Congratulations! We also did the gowns with the band at the bottom alot the first couple of weeks at home so I didn't have to go buy more newborns. He fit in 0-3 about 3 weeks ish?
Congrats! My son was only 20 days early but he wore Preemie stuff for the first two weeks and then Newborn stuff for 2 months. I went out and bought more onesies like once a week. It was sort of my "me time" while my husband watched the baby so I didn't mind. You, of course, don't "need" a million different onesies but I likes being able to differentiate my days. Welcome.
C wore newborn for maybe 2 weeks and 0-3 months from the beginning. In my case, the baby pretty much lived in Sleep N Plays for several months. They're cute, easy to change diapers in and comfortable. I'd recommend having more of those as you may go through several a day.

Congrats! You're due on my birthday
My kids all wore newborn clothes for 6-8 weeks. DD1 was born in the winter and lived in sleep and plays for the first few months. I'd buy more than you think you need and just keep the tags on.
You don't need winter clothes for a newborn. You pretty much just throw a lot of blankets over them in the stroller or carseat, or you wear them under your own coat. All you need is a few hats. (And I live in the frozen north.)
As for NB clothes, I bought little because if you can score any hand-me-downs, they're full of mint NB clothes. If you have any friends, ask before you buy.
Welcome back! This definitely varies from baby to baby. DS was a slow gainer in the beginning and fit in Newborn clothes for about 2 months. I did not get many newborn outfits to start because I heard many babies only wear them for a week. Well, DS spit up A LOT and we went through 2-4 outfits (sleep n'plays) per day. We definitely needed more.
We were gifted lots of clothes so that helped. Also, I went out and bought some as I wanted to get out of the house. If you're worried, I'd buy a bunch of outfits. Don't take off the tags or wash them until it looks like you'll use them. If you never use them, return.
In my experience, more than what people say you will need. My daughter was in newborn for about 6 weeks and I was sick of the same outfits over and over again.
Exactly this. My guy was 9 days late and just over 8 pounds at birth. He was in NB clothes for 6 weeks. I didn't have many as I kept hearing that I wouldn't need them. We ended up getting more after he was born as the 0-3 stuff was so big on him and it looked ridiculous.
I'm so glad to see you here again. Congrats on your little guy!

Yayayayayayayay so happy you're doing well!
Yeah, it depends on the baby. L was in NB for almost three months. BUT we didn't go out very much, so we were fine with just a few things. It was so hot, too, that she pretty much hung out in a diaper at home most of the time.
I would skip the onsies and buy kimono shirts. My NB had no head control for a very long time. Getting those onsies up and over her head was hard for me. Or I'd dress her in a onsie in the morning and take some cute pictures, and then by noon she had an explosive poop and the onsie had to come off.
DD mostly lived in white Kimono shirts and pants from Carters in the daytime, and then sleepers at night. Unfortunately, basic kimono shirts sold at BBB or BRU only come in white unless you buy them online at Zutano or something. I feel like I may have seen a few as parts of sets at BBB.

Thank you ladies! I really appreciate all the advice! I think I will go ahead and get a few more outfits and a pack of onesies and keep the tags on just in case.
Congratulations! I'm due 12/10. DS1 was a 36 weeker and he never fit newborn. We had to go with outfit choice #2 because he was too big for the first one. I'm curious how DS2 is going to fare.
My DS was 7 lbs 5 oz, 21 inches at birth. Carter's NB fit him for about 4-6 weeks. We ended up needing a bit more NB clothing than originally anticipated.
