Is there a shortage of flu shots for children in your area? It has been so hard to get an appointment for DS, they told me they have a shortage and are only scheduling so many appointments per week. I finally got an appointment for him and she told me he would have to come back for his second shot in a month, if they still have any. Has anyone else had this problem?
I wasn't told of a shortage. We did go back after a month for the 2nd shot, but it sounded like that's just the way it works. We got the first dose at the beginning of Septemver though.
We got DS2's at the pedi last month and DS1 get's his at daycare. Neither mentioned a shortage, and apparently DS2 has to get a booster at his 9 month check up.

I was just coming here to ask that. I took my six month DS in for his shots at the beginning of the month and was told they weren't getting it until last Friday and was told to call today. Now they are telling me that because he didn't already have an appointment he can't have it because they may not have enough.

Yep. We had the same problem scheduling with our pedi. Finally got an appt this past week for the mist. They sent an email saying a limited amount was available and I spent 10 minutes hitting redial because the phone lines were busy. I don't know if it's just our area, but I couldn't even find one for her thru wellspan.
We didn't, but we got hers at her 18 month well-check in September.
FYI if your pedi doesn't have it - I think the minute clinic can give shots to kids over 18 months. (In our state the pharmacist can only give it if you're over 11 or 12.)

Yes, the preservative free shots are in very low supply/non-existent around here. The pedi office we will be using just sent out an email saying that they will be giving the non-preservative free shots if the parents ok it and then there were some studies attached that I guess okayed the use of the non-preservative free ones for babies (I didn't read the whole email since our little one is still in utero).
Baby boy won't be born until early December, so we'll see what they have by then.
Yep, I call every week and they keep telling me maybe next week they will have them for her age range. At the very least I hope they have them for her 15 month appt in 2 weeks

We have a follow-up for A's ear infections on Thursday and will hopefully get the first dose then. They were out at her 9 month appointment a few weeks ago. Our pedi said for us to not worry about getting the second shot until her 1 year appointment in January for the second dose.
There's a shortage here. We put him on the waiting list at the beginning of September since he was having surgery in early October (we wanted him to get the flu shot before his hospital stay) and he only just got his shot last week! Thankfully his hospital stay went smoothly and no illness.
Baby boy won't be born until early December, so we'll see what they have by then.
FYI, they can't get flu shots until they're older than 6 months anyway, at which point flu season will be over for your kiddo.
Ummmm. DUH (me not you). I was reading their vaccine schedule and the flu shot thing and there was so many things I just lumped all shots together. Lol. I am so dumb sometimes.
Lillian just got hers last week and I had been on their list for over a month to call first. She wasn't eligible for the mist because of past breathing issues, so I had to wait. They only had a limited amount even last week.
Yup. I made DS an appointment MONTHS in advance b/c our pedi had the same problem last year. When I called the day before to make sure they did in fact actually HAVE them in stock, they said they had enough for that day ONLY, and had no idea when they'd get more :-| I was the first appointment and the line was out the door when I left.
No problems here, we walked into the immunization clinic and we both got one and were on our way in less than 15 minutes. Which is a miracle for a military clinic! They are doing a flu shot clinic at daycare on Thursday as well.
Wow, that's crazy. We got J's first one at his appt on Friday and have to go back in a month for his next one. They have been doing a flu shot clinic this whole month every Monday and Friday. Never mentioned a shortage. I did notice he got the one with preservatives. They didn't ask which I would prefer. Doesn't bother me, but I wonder if the preservative-free version is the one there's a shortage of.
