I just can't get into the shift of the routines from the graceful dance with tumbling to the emphasis on tumbling and more tumbling. I finally just caught up on what happened last night and with the exception of Aly's routine I was not impressed(with the routines, not the out of bounds issues). I am sure I find it so odd since there was such an emphasis on dance when I competed that we all took ballet twice a week. If I am laying it all out I would say I think they are ugly and look like a man's routine.
Lauren Mitchell's floor routine on the other hand was fantastic, but since she was on earlier in the day and the coverage sucks chances are most people didn't see it.
DH and I always laugh about how no one is ever able to execute what we call the "spinny move" without looking like they're off balance and about to spin right off the floor. I think the dance parts of the womens' floor routines are just weird looking. And the leaps that the men do are hilarious.
I like the tumbling passes but I hate the forced "artistry.". The one legged spin move always looks dumb. I wish they would take that out of the requirements. It never looks right. Ever.

I just dont feel like women's gymnastics is the same as it was in the 90's. The routines dont look as fluid and the gymnast don't look as well groomed as they used to. The hair up in the half pony tail pull through thing just seems off, they all used to wear buns or curled pony tails and natural looking makeup, there was one last night that was doing the multi colored eye lid thing that seems really popular on pinterest and in magazines.
I hate the hand flips and fake dancy moves. Just tumble and be done with it. I think the "dancing" looks silly. That is coming from a former dancer though.
I never liked the dancey stuff. If I want to see dance, I'll go see real dancers. I want to see gymnasts do gymnastics without having to be all artistic and dramatic.
It's the scoring change. They're not rewarded for anything other than cramming as many difficult tricks (and the requirements) into the allotted time as possible. So now you just get lip service to the dance-y stuff.
It is fun to see the harder tricks but I wish there was a little artistic left is artistic gymnastics.
