DS has started sticking his entire fist in his mouth to self-soothe overnight. This means H and I are awoken in the early morning hours to the sound of a baby choking on his fingers. He knows how to roll so swaddling is out. I really do not want to buy yet another baby contraption that he will fight against (he barely tolerates a sleep sack). Any advice?
Mine went through a phase like that. One time she accidentally made herself barf. She's mostly stopped with the gagging, so hopefully your guy will cut it out soon.
He won't sleep if he isn't sucking on his fist/fingers. But since he's choking on them now he also isn't sleeping either.
How many times does he wake up? Is he hungry? How do you get him back to sleep when he wakes?
From that, a couple times a night. I nurse him every time he wakes up since that gets him back to sleep. He's just obsessed with his hands - I catch him doing it during the day and can redirect him then. Sometimes Sophie or a paci will work to soothe him but then he catches sight of his fingers and it's game over.

Good to know! Well, not good to know that he's likely going to gag himself into vomiting MOTN. It's an awful sound.

I just consulted my blog and this is what I wrote at 3 months:
Likes: His hands! Seriously he has so much fun just sucking on his hands or looking at them, especially in the morning. I will unswaddle him and change his diaper and then go back to bed while he lays next to me in the Rock N Play cracking himself up talking to his hands.
So yes B had an obsessed with hands phase but between the Miracle Blanket and later the Magic Merlin Sleepsuit he had restricted access to them at night. But TBH using those as long as we did brought a host of other issues. Conclusion: babies are assholes. TM jenny1980
He's figured out how to manipulate his physical therapist out of tummy time and into stretches/massage time. But apparently not choking himself is higher order thinking or something. I need one of those magical #soadvanced FB babies.
