I love getting reading suggestions from you all but don't have it in me to even attempt the book club list here.
I'm reading ann patchett (who wrote bel canto and state of wonder) right now. It's her collection of stories "the story of a happy marriage" and it's so good! I usually avoid short story collections but I'm loving this so much I thought I'd share.

"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith. I think it's a classic and most people read it during school, but I had never heard of it. I really like it so far.
Read Gone Girl a while ago. Meh. I just finished The One and Only by Emily Giffin. It was alright. And just waiting for Crossfire #4 next month....sigh.
I'm reading the second Outlander book, Dragonfly in Amber. So far I don't like it as much as the first one but I keep hoping it will pick up.
I got halfway through this and then quit. I've tried coming back to it several times but I just can't get into it. I really wanted to like this series but I just don't.

Just finished "For Laci". It was a reread. I also reread Amber Frey's book. I read both of them before marriage and kids. The book her mom wrote was a lot different for me this time, now that I am a mom.
I need something new. For now, I'm reading Prep for the 200th time.

This was my grandmothers favorite book. She would read it every year and even had a first edition which I now have. I really should read it.

I love Ann Patchett! Have you read "State of Wonder"? I highly recommend it.
ETA: Reading FAIL. I see now you mentioned it in your OP. I just got all worked up like a puppy over someone else being a fan!
Anyway, I just finished two books by Roddy Doyle: "The Woman Who Walked Into Doors" and its follow-up, "Paula Spencer". Both really well done character studies, depressing but uplifting at the same time. Hard to get used to that Irish dialect though!

One last thought and then I'm going to bed! If you liked "State of Wonder", have you read "Euphoria" by Lily King? If not, check it out!

I keep checking up on her to see if she's coming out with a new book! I will definitely check out Euphoria.
