I was just telling a friend the other day that we've been really lucky that DS doesn't seem to be a food thrower. Of course that night he got angry about something and threw the whole plate on the floor.
At what age does throwing food on the floor mean he just doesn't get anything else to eat? There was no extra dinner food to give him. And I don't really want him to think he can get applesauce and goldfish every night if he just throws the regular dinner. My DH ended up giving him what was left on his plate.
We don't put food on a plate, just directly on his high chair tray. That way when he throws food he can't unload it all at the same time.
We do this too. So he flings single slices of bananas off, one at a time. Then scolds himself "no no no no no" and does it with a devilish grin. Little stinker. He's 15 months.
He usually starts flinging when he's done eating anyway, so I don't offer anything else.
This was at the beginning of dinner so he hadn't eaten anything yet. I think he was hungry and frustrated and didn't know how to turn that off to actually eat.
I wasn't sure what to do since there wasn't more food to give him. We don't always give him all his food at once... Maybe that was part of our mistake. Like I said DH gave him some of his food and then DH ended up eating canned tuna lol
We are going through this phase as well. It's super frustrating to me for some reason (more than any other behavior) but I try not to let it show. I just look give a stern "no no". He only does this at home, at daycare he's a perfect angel when it comes to food and eats whatever they put in front of him. Ha. I think it will be a long time before we don't give him other food for throwing it since he is only 14 months. Most of the time he does it when he's not really hungry. He'll use his entire arm to sweep food off his tray.
